ARNOLD, I DON’T THINK SHE GETS IT.

Finally, Arnold manages to catch on to the fact that Ruth thinks he’s a bus boy and not her date.




“Let me put it this way, you’re probably wondering who wrote that Valentine - about who ‘Anonymous’ really is.”



“Everyone knows who Anonymous is.”
“…whut?”



“Yeah, he’s like a famous poet.”
“…whut?”
“Sure, everytime we read a poem in school it’s always by that guy - Anonymous.”

(we don’t actually get to see Arnold’s response to Ruth’s braniac response, but i’m sure it would be something like that)

Arnold’s like: “Okay, you aren’t the sharpest crayon in the box (lol, Bad Girls by Cynthia Voigt), but let’s chat.”

Ruth: “Okay, but when this Anonymous guy shows up you’re going to have to go.”

Arnold: “Um, no.”

And then Helga’s True Love starts playing! I think it’s probably the third one, but gah - so pretty! I love the violin.



Helga: “Is something wrong, Arnold?”
Arnold: “No, nothing. It’s just that… Have you ever noticed that sometimes when you think you like a person from far away and you find out they’re not what you thought they were when you get up close?”
Helga: “Well, what do you mean?”




Arnold: “Well, there was this girl I thought I liked, but then it turned out that when I got to know her we had nothing in common.”
Helga: “Well, maybe she’s not the girl for you. Maybe the girl for you is someone you didn’t expect. After all the most beautiful gift can come in the plainest box.”
Arnold: “Y’know, I think you’re right.”

Ruth is getting hit on by that waiter from earlier and Arnold doesn’t care (neither do I so NO CAPS).

Helga, really likes him and she needs to know - do you like her too, Arnold?

Oh, and I forgot mention the one thing I LOVE about this ep. Helga gets prettier the sicker/dirtier/ickier she is. Really, she’s GORGEOUS here, with her hair all down and the fakey curves all gone.

It’s one of my favorite little canon things - the more wrecked Helga gets the prettier she becomes. :3



I couldn’t get a good cap of this little scene. I don’t think Ruth is really holding out for ‘Anonymous’ anymore.

And I love that the older kid’s conversation revolves around breadsticks, hair and gum when the younger kids were talking about love and unexpected happiness and just… Arnold’s class is too smart for their own good.



Looks like his gal is leaving with another man.

Arnold: “Who the hell are you?”

Helga-as-Cecile: “O_O”



Real Cecile: “You don’t recognize me from that photo I sent you? Are you blind?”
Arnold: “Uh, but she’s Cecile. :\ “



Helga-as-Cecile: “I am a leaf on the wind.”



Real Cecile: “What the hell?”
Arnold: “ :C “



Gerald saves the day!

Gerald: “Hi, I’m Arnold, but you should call me Lucy. I like that. You wanna go eat greasy American food?”
Real Cecile: “;_; That’s all I ever wanted.”

Also, Helga’s True Love 4 starts up right here and it’s so damn pretty.

Arnold: “There’s one thing I still don’t understand…. Who are you?”



But she can’t tell him, because Helga is complicated.

Arnold: “Why not?”




Helga-as-Cecile: “I just can’t, that’s all. Okay?”



But she wishes she could. ;_;

It’s not your fault, Arnold. She just isn’t brave enough. She’s scared that you’ll hate her or reject her or that everyone in the whole world will find out and suddenly she’ll be showing her vulnerability and she doesn’t know how to deal with that. But she loves you. She does.




Arnold: “Will I see you again?”
Helga-as-Cecile: “Oh, probably.”



He tells her it’s been the best Valentine’s Day ever and she agrees before taking her leave.



Arnold: “Well, we’ll always have Chez Paris.”

And then he kisses her hand! And she lets out this little happy sigh (Helga is the queen of lovesick sighs).



Oh god, they are too cute!



Helga-as-Cecile: “Au revoir, Arnold.”



And then poor Helga is left to figure out who Arnold really likes. Her or Cecile or her-Cecile or a little of both or what the fuck?

Personally, I'd say that it's her that he likes. But he likes her when her walls are down, when it's vulnerable, tiny Helga. Which is a problem for them in the long run, because I honestly believe that Helga's bluster and cruel side is a big part of who she really is. She isn't just a sweet little girl like Lila is - she's got bite.




And all he has to remember her by is one red shoe.

i have to agree with you on the whole "arnold and helga" situation, i do think after a while threw the show on helga can play it both ways, and im honestly wondering if arnold ever indeed suspected it since of what grandpa had told him and then that post confession in married. so yeah i think between this episode also including christmas and thanksgiving and i believe the summer one, where i think arnold and helga kinda connected with each other in a way, and then there's movie but we all know what happens there.
