a/n: Okay, so the weirdest thing about this is that most of those movies I had already watched before I really consciously realized that I had an interest in animation. Which, maybe watching all of those animated caused the love or maybe the love was always there and caused the movie watching. I WILL NEVER KNOW FOR SURE.

Also, I do not talk about this very often, but I fucking love Don Bluth. Like, I know that his movies are pretty much hit or miss, but OH MAN WHEN HE HITS. Also, his men are always so dreamy. Just watch how they move, all the action is in their shoulders and it's so much fun to watch. Also, his people are so... clumsy and fidgety and movey and IDK, I love his movies.

Ooh, fun! Putting Song of the South on there isn't fair, though, no one under the age of 70 has seen it. (Although I guess you can put down a partial for "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah.") And why isn't Roger Rabbit under Disney? *confused*

Haha, isn't that the one that's horrifically offensive and will never be rereleased like EVER because it is SO TERRIBLE?

And why isn't Roger Rabbit under Disney?

I do not know! I also mentioned under the Don Bluth section that I actually don't think he had any involvement in Fievel Goes West. So there seem to be a few things off the mark here.

What are your thoughts on Don Bluth movies by the way (if you have any)? I know you adore all things Disney, but I'd love to hear what you think about some of the things Don's come out with.

Yeah, it's supposedly pretty wretched. One of my dreams is being able to see it, because wretched or not, it's Disney, and I'm an insane completionist.

I tend to think Bluth movies are weaker than Disney - stiffer, jumpier animation, frequently bizarre plots, a tendency to use celebrity voices instead of voice actors who might be better at - but I've only seen about a half-dozen of them, most when I was a wee thing. That said, The Land Before Time was one of my very favorite movies as a kid, and Anastasia is one of my very favorite movies, period (and yes, the latter has many weaknesses in the animation, but storywise I maintain that it's a damn good film). And I do have a nostalgic fondness for the ones I watched as a kid. (All Dogs Go to Heaven, though, which I just rewatched recently, is a godawful opium nightmare.)

I think it would be at least interesting to watch and study, despite it's awfulness. I do not know much of the plot/history surrounding the production of that movie, but IDK, I feel like they shouldn't exactly hide it away. IDK how they would handle putting it on DVD though, without causing a horrible stir of badness, because it is so very offensive, but I also feel like it should be available in some way.

Don's movies are very hit or miss. But for some reason, I've always adored them and yes to The Land Before Time and Anastasia. And, I am actually oddly fond of his animation, but I do understand what you're saying.

Awww, I still adore All Dogs Go to Heaven! For some reason my most vivid memory from that movie is the scene where Anne Marie is eating waffles.

More than any of his movies, I absolutely loooove The Secret of Nimh. I used to watch it ALL the time when I was wee (that and The Little Mermaid) and we'd rent it from the video store like every other week for me, but then the store went out of business and I WAS SO SAD. THEN I got it for my birthday and this sounds like a really stupid story, but for some reason I was CONVINCED that it was impossible to even get that movie - probably my dad tricked me, but I WAS SO HAPPY YOU HAVE NO IDEA.

Also! This is sort of random and off topic, but apparently I used to also watch The Little Mermaid like every single day as a kid and then grew up and totally forgot about loving it. So then it came out on DVD like three years ago while I was working at a toy store at the time and we got this little video to put out that showed a preview that replayed over and over again throughout the day and sometimes I would just STOP what I was doing and go and watch the preview as if it were magic. Then I bought the DVD, because something inside of me NEEDED it.

So I brought it home and my mother went: "OH GOD I THOUGHT WE WERE PAST THIS POINT OF YOUR LIFE." and I was all: "What?" and she was like: "You used to watch it every single day and I had to watch it with you." Then I laughed at her and put it in and SHE COULD RECITE HALF THE MOVIE. It was crazy.

...why don't I have any Little Mermaid icons.......

I'm kind of ashamed of the number of movies on this list I haven't seen. WOE.

Haha, Somehow I have seen SO MANY of them. I'm not even sure HOW that happened. It just... did.

Oh, god, I've seen almost every one of these movies. I was gazing through it and hoping that eventually a movie that I hadn't seen would come up and alas, I ended up with about seven I haven't seen...I can't decide if it means I'm well cultured or just way to addicted to movies.

From: [identity profile] leskuh.livejournal.com
That is actually really awesome! Well, okay I don't actually have an interest in seeing ALL of these movies, but I would like to see MORE.

Also, I think it's sort of hilarious that I have only seen 1 out of 16 movies in the "Adult" category, because I'm like... seven and hate everything that is geared towards adults.

I think the only reason I've seen as many as I have is because they always play the weirdest movies at like three AM and I'm always awake with nothing to do. But yeah, a few you have unchecked are definitely worth seeing like, I totes agree with airekuh, iron giant is a must-watch & Fritz the Cat is enjoyable in that it's so old that you can't help but smile way. && omg, Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumber Land is one of my all-time favorites movies. I literally used to sit down and watch the movie on replay when I was little.

I should probably start making a list of movies to watch. I really need to get a netflix account. It would solve so many problems.

You should see the rest of the Iron Giant pronto. It's sooo good.

Also, it made me depressed that The Great Mouse Detective was under Disney's Dark Age because I will always, always, always adore that movie. :(

Oh, and another thing, I don't know much about Don Bluth, but I adore Thumbelina, Anastasia, and The Pebble and The Penguin.

I have heard many great things about the Iron Giant! Yet, I have never been much interested in actually sitting down to watch it, so IDK. I know it will be wonderful, but for some reason I'm just sort of like ehhhhhhhh.

I also love The Great Mouse Detective! I only have it on this ratty old VHS copy though. My sister likes it more than I do, I think.

I am... somewhat knowledgeable about Don Bluth and his movies. Like, I have both of his books on animation/storyboarding and also am weirdly interested in the time when he left Disney because he didn't like the direction it was going in sooo... IDK what I'm trying to really say, but I have many soft spots for Don Bluth movies.

Thumbelina and Anastasia are both REALLY AWESOME. The Pebble and the Penguin is the one I haven't managed to see yet.

Fern Gully. Man, I watched that so much when I was a kid.

Waltz With Bashir (2008) - I saw that, ended when they realised Bashir was a Changeling Infiltrator when Real Bashir escaped from a Dominion Prison Camp.

I actually went and rewatched Fern Gully on youtube recently and it really doesn't hold up to my memory of it.

I've never even heard of Waltz With Bashir!

I posted it on my deviantart and was amazed that I had seen so many of the films. Haha. When i was younger all I would do was watch animated films, some of them were really random and rare, like Little Nemo. That's where my love for animation started.

Oh, and because the meme left it out, have you seen UP yet?

Date: 2010-01-27 05:24 am (UTC)

I really didn't realize I had seen so many animated movies! I mean, I knew I'd seen a bunch, but not 80+!

I HAVE seen UP and I LOVED IT SO MUCH and it is probably one of my favorite Pixar movies.

AND THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT. haha.

Oh wow, I have watched more movies than I realized!

I'm also one of the few people who actually has watched The Black Cauldron. I love how dark and twisted it was by Disney standards. I was really impressed with that one.

Oh and I have to say, Robin Hood and Emperor's New Groove? Two of the most underrated Disney movies of all time. Both awesome. Both hilarious.

Oh and I've watched Anastasia more times than I care to admit. I think that viewing record is only beaten by The Little Mermaid for me.

Date: 2010-01-27 02:41 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] leskuh.livejournal.com
Ditto! I was expecting a pretty dismal list and got... over half! Woo!

I didn't love The Black Cauldron, but I didn't hate it either. It WAS pretty dark for a Disney movie, which is always awesome.

I'm not huge on Robin Hood (it was an ex-bff's favorite and we used to have to watch it all the time), but Emperor's New Groove is SO WONDERFUL.

Haha, I'd say The Little Mermaid and The Secret of Nimh take the cake for me, but a lot of these movies I have seen SO MANY TIMES.

Wow. That list gave me flashbacks. Horrible Yellow Submarine flashbacks when my 7th grade music teacher was OBSESSED with the Beatles and made us watch it several times.

But Don Bluth! Yay!

I was forced to watch Yellow Submarine in my Animation class this year. My teacher was also obsessed with the Beatles. I will never be the same.

I am so sorry you had to watch it more then once though. D:
