Journal - "Just Kinda Bored"

This might get long, so I figured I'd warn you guys right now. I also don't have my usual hand-dandy HTML document and Rich text and I are mortal enemies so I cannot produce a cut to spare your flists if this gets monstrous. HOW SAD FOR YOU.

I'm home and relaxing ATM. Thanksgiving was good, lotsa family and food. Tomorrow I'm hoping to get together with my girls and have some awesome times. Apparently my one BFF brought home some girl she is seeing - who I have never met and didn't actually know about so uhh, that ought to be interesting.

On Saturday I'm going out with a bunch of people for SUSHI and I am SO EXCITED OMG.

I mentioned the 'Fairytale Fanart' thing and my ~EXCITEMENT~ about it the other day, right? WELL, apparently it seems as though the finished picture might POSSIBLY, MAYBE end up being princess!Sam, knight!Carly and dragon!Freddie having makeouts? IDEK.

And I've been doing some concept stuff for it for funsies too. Lots of Sam in purty dresses swooning at knight!Carly. Also some seductive dragon!Freddie got mixed in there and I AM THE WORST/BEST.

I need a haircut like yesterday.

I have been having STERN WORDS with a fellow Sam/Freddie fan over at the creator's blog and on twitter as of late. It has been actually sort of fun, because I enjoy drama sometimes? And I like getting to tell people when they are being awful and WHY they are being awful. I have also been getting better acquainted with some Carly/Freddie fans and they seem to be pretty awesome people. I still do not ship Carly/Freddie and probably never will, but I like discussing the show from different shipping viewpoints.

Also, it makes me sad when a certain ship gets a giant following and then members of that giant following turn out to be annoying to the point where people start jumping ship just because they don't want to be associated with the rabid fanbase. This happened with Zutara and I! I was interested in it early on, but the fans killed my love. :\

Anyway, I'm going to miss iMove Out and I am REALLY sad about this. The end.

You are not thinking about jumping the Seddie ship are you? I think of it like the following. It doesnt matter what race, what religion, or what not there are always going to be those certain people in that religion, race, or in this case a fandom that are annoying. :)

Nah, I really do prefer Sam/Freddie and am invested in how their relationship develops. What has happened is that I'm a lot more open to the views of other shippers and will probably end up siding with them if an argument breaks out. Well, maybe. Depends on which side is being the bigger jerks.

But you're right. It's not possible to have a perfect fandom with no issues and no annoying members.

Re: ship drama: I've peeked through some iCarly wank and I kind of made a connection between Sam/Freddie and Zutara? IDK. From what I noticed, both have a large fanbase so they have more opprounity for annoying fans. These annoying fans seem to think their ship is better because it's popular and the subtext is ZOMG so going towards their ship!!1 This displeases because I like Sam/Freddie but kind of hate Zutara because of bad experiences in fandom. >.

I am pretty much the exact same way. I was interested in Zutara in the beginning, but any love I could have had for the ship was quickly squashed by the Zutara fanbase.

Now, I loooove Sam/Freddie and it's the reason I got into iCarly fandom in the first place. I DO think they are going to be 'endgame' and I DO think that they have a ton of 'subtext'. HOWEVER, I do not want to rub other fans noses in it. I do not think every moment with Sam and Freddie is shippy. I love my ship, but it is okay for someone to NOT love my ship and it doesn't make them DELUSIONAL and it doesn't make their ship DISGUSTING or dull - it's just DIFFERENT.

I think you're right about how it usually seems to be the bigger fanbase that has more annoying fans. It makes sense after all. It bothers me a lot though, since I'm in that bigger group of fans and I don't like that the obsessive fans are giving the ship as a whole such a bad rep. :\

Well, actually, I never really liked Zutara. I was just a canon shipper in Avatar fandom for a long time so the stuff I liked got bashed tons. I've defended Mai, for example, more times than I can count.

As for iCarly, all bias aside, I do think the show is heading in a Sam/Freddie direction. The respect between them growing and Freddie's feelings for Carly cooling... just make it seem that way to me. But, like you, I'm not going to rub that in other people's faces. Not everyone is going to see the show like I do/ship what I do. And that is okay! It would be boring if we all felt the same way.

Yeah, crazy people giving ships in general a bad name is awful. It's awful for the sane shippers of big pairings because they get associated with those people. It's awful for the shippers of small pairings because what they love typically gets harshed on. Faaail. IDK, I don't get why people can't just like what they like and not annoy others. There's less stress that way.

Well, I was interested in Zutara WAAAAAAY back in S1. I didn't really have any opinions on shipping again until the Desert in S2 when I went OMG KATARA/AANG YES FOREVER!

I like Mai and Zuko/Mai, but I do not love it. I became really fond of it after The Beach. I do think the Mai bashing is the stupidest shit ever.

That's how I feel. I know I have a Sam/Freddie mind, but I also feel Sam/Freddie in my gut and I have since the beginning. And I am normally pretty good at guessing these things.

But yes, it's okay for other people to not like Sam/Freddie and even hope that the show doesn't go that way. I can totally understand that.

And yeah, the worst part about Zutara is that even now when people talk about shipping Zuko/Katara I can't help but recoil just a bit. The fans were THAT BAD.

Either way, in retrospect, The Desert was when I got really into Katara/Aang too. She hugged him back from the darkside! <3

Hee, I love The Beach. But yeah, I don't get Mai bashing because it's like... Avatar is one of the BEST shows about having powerful and important female characters. Why down-grade that?

Agreed. I feel Sam/Fredie in my gut and I'm pretty good at guessing ships. But if someone feels the opposite way? That's fine too. Srsly, no need to hate.

Exactly. The more there are of one thing the more people that like that thing will be people you disagree with. Honestly if fans of one ship make a person decide not to ship something then it's hard for me to imagine that person was really engrossed in that ship to beging with. I mean just because a ship is more popular i dont think thats a bad thing. :)

I never watched Avatar and have never been in that fandom but yes i have heard horror story's about it. While I see a lot of people bad mouthing Dan for stuff dan does from what i hear it's not even close to how the creators of Avatar badmouthed a certain ship.

Basically it said:

1) I do think it's possible for a fan to jump ship because the fanbase is horrid

2) I probably wouldn't.

3) Popularity is cool because you get more creative input, but it also brings out the CRAZY.

4) Avatar was the worst.

5) Dan is a pretty cool creator because he seems to be totally okay with all ships.

6) I think people complaining about how Dan is 'ruining' Carly/Freddie moments with Sam are being silly, because it's likely that what he's REALLY doing is setting up Sam/Freddie. He is probably taking the show in that direction, which is really okay since it's his show after all. He doesn't have to be impartial or cater to a ship that he isn't feeling. He can LIKE Sam/Freddie more and push the show in that direction and that's just how it is.

But the difference between Dan and other creators is that even though he is pushing the show in a certain direction he has NEVER come out and discounted a different ship. He's very respectful to his fans. Yes, he may cater to Sam/Freddie but at least he hasn't said anything to Carly/Freddie fans about being 'delusional'.

Yeah I agree. Dan has really not said anything that could be perceived as negative for any ship in my mind. If he thinks it well he is smart enough not to say it.
