Journal - "iCarly and Junk"

Hnn. I'm in an iCarly mood, but don't know what to do with it. Also, it might just be me being picky, but so far NONE of 5_4_3_2's challenges haven't really caught my eye. I think the visual challenges are a cool idea, but IDK. None of the November ones really grab me and 'Let's Eat' as an overall prompt is kind of... EHHHHHHHH.

I also can't do it because 'Let's Eat' keeps sending my mind to DIRTY places and then I just start giggling like a 12 year old.

Also, the week-by-weekish ones seem to be fanfiction only? Which is bummery. Not that anyone can stop me from doing whatever I want, but it's kind of a moot point since the new challenge JUST went up and it's about the side characters and I have absolutely no interest in drawing any of the side characters. I still haven't even made a proper Carly after all.

Last night's episode wasn't really that great either. Lewbert-centric episodes are not a good idea. He is boring and completely unlikable and not worth a half hour of my time. Sorry.

The trio was cute in this episode though. I liked all the lounging about that they did. You can really see how comfortable the cast has become with one another at this point.

It is totally okay if I have a little crush on Nathan Kress because he is going to be 17 in like 3 days and I am only 20 and 3.5 years isn't that big a difference AMIRITE?

Hmmm. I'm about halfway through the next chapter of Trying. Helga and Phoebe are being all sorts of adorable in it. Arnold is kind of hanging back and letting the girls steal the limelight for this chapter.

Anyway, anyone want to give me iCarly related prompts? They can be anything you want - Song Lyrics, single words, WHATEVER. Please note that I'm pretty much only really comfortable drawing Sam and Freddie (and maybe!Carly) so like... if you want Spencer/Nevel it is totally NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. Actually I'm likely to only draw Sam/Freddie stuff, because that is what I like, so uhhhh... Just so you know and all.

But yes. Toss me some prompts please. Even if you have no investment in iCarly, but have a word or phrase stuck in your head. LET ME HAVE IT.

I have a crush on both him and Jerry, so perhaps they balance one another out? Also, if it weren't for Nathan's eyes/eyebrows there would be no crush, but I cannot resist those glorious eyebrows!

I'm basically enamored with how they've evolved over the course of the series. It used to be Sam abusing Freddie with little retaliation, but as of late Freddie has been playing the game and attempting to match her step-for-step and blow-for-blow. So like... YES.

My kids love this show and I get treated to many iCarly marathons during the weekend, so I've come to like it too, lol. It's a cute show!

Haha, I love Spencer too. Jerry Trainor is the weird kind of handsome. Like, he's not really what I'd call attractive, but the way he acts makes him kind of dreamy. IDK. But yeah, he's Carly's brother.

It IS a cute show.

The one who talks funny? I actually only think he's in one episode. He's got a website on youtube though and that's why they brought him on the show.

I have two little sisters who like Nick so I end up watching a lot of iCarly. It's a fun show but I have to agree the best part is Sam/Freddie. They get such great reactions out of each other! <3

I've always been something of a Nick girl, so I found it on my own and enjoy watching eps by myself. I do dig a lot of the humor, but I also have some problems with the show? The show has this icky tendency to throw in a lot of somewhat sexual harassment/violence and it's really not cool. Like, I really love Sam/Freddie, but I do think Sam crosses a line sometimes? I mean, I think a part of him is totally into it, but the violence can still get a little over the top now and then.

And the latest episode had Lewbert's ex-girlfriend whom he hates/is terrified of holding him down and forcibly cutting his hair, so... Not cool, iCarly. The worst part of it is that scenes like that get played for laughs, but it's really... not funny.

But overall, I do enjoy it and think it can be genuinely funny most of the time. And the Sam/Freddie banter is my favorite.

Well, I do like by itself but I probably wouldn't pick to watch it on my own. It is sweet and funny but I have the same problems with the show you mentioned. Only my problems sometimes overide the enjoyment. I think Sam is sometimes is too much of a bully and the inuuendo goes too far.

Oh, yeah, I saw ads for the episode abput Lewbert's ex-girlfriend and was like "I think I'm skipping this one!". It reminded of the iPie episode where the daughter of the pie maker almost raper Spencer and it was played for laughs. Like you said, it's just not

Ah, I was talking to somebody else just a moment ago and they brought up iPie. iCarly seems to think attempted rape and abuse is HILARIOUS when it happens to boys. Because, y'know, boys should be strong after all so if they can't fight back it's totally their own fault that they're being harassed or attacked.

Which, y'know, NO iCARLY NO.

There’s also that other episode where Spencer dates Carly’s teacher and she goes crazy on him. That too is presented as LOL SO FUNNY. iCarly does seem to think boys being attacked and girls going crazy is hilarious. Which, like you said, is VERY not cool.

iCarly has nice themes on friendship and creativity (and I have that dorky need for Same and Freddie to hook up) but that sexism is why I dislike the show more than I enjoy it.

Spencer seems to be a walking target for all sorts of abuse on that show (Freddie too to an extent, although most of that comes from Sam). Just because you reverse the gender norms doesn't make the (often times at least partly sexual) violence any less skeevy iCarly!

Yes, I like iCarly on a lot of levels, but I'm not blind to it's faults. My favorite scenes are the ones where it's just the trio being BFF-y and lounging about. That's like... all I want to watch is three friends being cute together! Leave out all the Nevel sideplots/quasi-sexual abuse scenes and just let me watch them make cute faces at one another!

poisonivory and I once had a conversation about how, iCarly can be funny and charming, but it's hard to love. I can like the show a lot, but I can't say that I really love it. It doesn't fill me with the warm fuzzies that Hey Arnold! does.
