Fandom: Hey Arnold!
Character(s): Rhonda, Harold

a/n: I don't really know why I've been all Rhonda/Harold happy lately. I just love them.
I've also been meaning to put up a journal on DA about my thoughts on Rhonda/Harold-Eugene/Curly-Curly/Rhonda-Patty/Harold. For funsies.
Also, I once had someone basically say to me that Harold/Rhonda was gross because Harold was gross and didn't deserve her and it was the worst ever, because I love Harold SO MUCH and so it was pretty much the most worthless conversation ever. Also Harold being fat was brought into the discussion and I wanted to e-punch someone, because FAT PEOPLE EXIST AND DESERVE TO LOVE AND BE LOVED JUST AS MUCH AS ANYONE ELSE DOI! Beh.
I dunno, I just really relate to Harold on some level. I mean, I'm not really like him all that much, but there's some core part of his character that gets to me. It's got something to do with how he's cowardly and stupid and fat and he fucks up a lot, but he almost always comes through in the end. And when he does something wrong and knows it he usually feels SO GUILTY and just... he's big and dumb and sometimes a bully, but he's a good person.
Anyway, I love him.

Date: 2009-05-11 03:27 am (UTC)WHY DO PEOPLE LIKE THIS EXIST.
I'm going to ignore the fact that they do and revel in the cuteness of this sketch. I kind of love how much taller he is than her. And are those pigtails, or is her ponytail just sideways?

Date: 2009-05-11 03:38 am (UTC)I'M SORRY YOU ARE RIGHT! FAT PEOPLE ARE NOT REALLY PEOPLE AT ALL.
Yeah, it was basically the most ridiculously stupid discussion I've ever had. It was the same person who drew over that one Rhonda/Harold thing I drew in iScribble.
I'm sure she'll catch up to him. I imagine him ending up like 5'9" and her getting to around 5'7"/5'8"? Haha, the scale in this picture is really just nonsensical - Rhonda's fairly tall for her age. Though, that might not carry past puberty and I'm sort of the opinion that Rhonda hits puberty early (judging by April Fool's Day) so maybe she's already had one of her major growth spurts? IDK I AM THINKING TOO HARD ABOUT THIS!
I am not sure about the pigtail vs. side-ponytail issue. I can swing it either way at this point. :D

Date: 2009-05-11 03:48 am (UTC)I'm with you on your Rhonda's-growth-spurt train of thought. She's always seemed ridiculously tall for a fourth grader. But then, so has Stinky.

Date: 2009-05-11 03:54 am (UTC)I knew some boys who were really tall back then. Maybe not 4th grade, but by 5th/6th grade there were some already gangly boys. Also, I totes hit puberty in 5th grade so I can imagine that one of the girls would probably get their period young and be like: 'GOD FUCKING DAMMIT!' because that was pretty much my reaction.

Date: 2009-05-11 01:22 pm (UTC)You should also totally love Eugene/Curly and Phoebe/Gerald wooooooooBut yeah, Harold is my second favorite - right after the ol' Hell Girl. I think he's hilarious and lovable. And Rhonda/Harold is so much fun, because she's so aggressive and he's like: "What? NO I DON'T LIKE YOU!!!!!!! ...okay, whatever you smell pretty...."
I just spent the last week online downloading like 60 episodes and it's all your fault. D:
Hee! I WIN! WATCH IT MOOOOOORE!

Date: 2009-05-11 03:15 pm (UTC)And I think I'm now a little too fond of Mr. Simmons, WTF?It's strange what a few years can do to your perspective. I'm loving things I never noticed before.I've got 18 episodes left to snag. My hard drive is crying.

Date: 2009-05-11 03:43 pm (UTC)I actually suck and still haven't seen every single episode. There's a few season 5 episodes that they kept on not scheduling and only showed like... once. And so I never saw them on tv and a lot of the ones that I hadn't watched seemed like they had dumb plots anyway. Though I HAVE to watch the Racing Mule, because apparently Arnold sings 'You Are My Sunshine' and it is THE GREATEST THING EVER.

Date: 2009-05-11 10:11 pm (UTC)I missed quite a few season 5 episodes, too. It's been a treat to see new (to me) episodes.

Date: 2009-05-11 10:07 am (UTC)And aww... I love how Rhonda is in a lot of way's Harold's opposite - she's clean and neat and obsessed with her appearance and he's all muddy and things. *huggles Harold*. I like him as a character.

Date: 2009-05-11 01:35 pm (UTC)I like that too. Mostly I just love how Rhonda/Harold sort of develops in the background of the series. They go on the ToL in the first season and she's pushy and he's like: "NOOOOOOO!" but not really at all (he SO could have gotten away if he really wanted to - he's bigger, stronger and older than her). And then they go again at the next Cheese Festival and instead of dragging him, they both just sit in their boat and smile at one another. And then Egg Story! Where he gets all teasing and is like: "I know you think I'm damn fine, Rhonda." and she's like: "I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT." But she does totally think he's damn fine.
Also, I'm all about how she's so hung up on appearances and yet the emphasis is on her crush on Harold. She also defends him in Weighing Harold at least twice. She does think he got super heavy, but she also sits with the kids at the end and is like: "Well, I think we all should be ashamed of ourselves for waiting here just to see if Harold is still fat." And then she's all happy for him when he's back to his regular weight.
And uhh... I got long-winded again. WHOOPS. YOU MAKE ME TALK TOO MUCH!
Anyway, they are adorable and I love them!

Date: 2009-05-11 04:57 pm (UTC)And yes! She loves him anyway despite (or maybe because) he's not like her. And he loves her too even though she's a GIRL and they're all EWW.
And I love that episode where they were swapped because it's just so cute.

Date: 2009-05-11 11:51 pm (UTC)There were a few other dumb reasons that didn't really hold any weight because it was all negativity towards Harold, which is not really going to affect my opinion of the ship because I LOVE HAROLD!
Hee, he is kind of lovably dumb. I do love Homer Simpson too.
