a/n: Also, I'm totally dancing around on the Beau/Franny side of things these days, but I wanted to see if this one technique worked on the sims pics and I had that cap available so that's why there's one random Tank/Frances icon. XD

ETA: Okay, this is going to probably sound really random to most of you, but do you guys know what Fausnaughts are? Without looking them up that is.

Because I TOTALLY just realized that it must be a PA Dutch thing. D: But still - HOW CAN YOU NOT KNOW WHAT FAUSNAUGHTS ARE?

Thanks. :3

Haha, take your time. No pressure.

Also, do you know what fausnaughts are? This question is very important to me!

No, I don't. I don't want to google it either :P It would be cheating!

They're doughnuts! It's this weird PA Dutch thing. Apparently they originally started making doughnuts in order to get rid of all the butter/lard before Lent. The tradition sort of stuck. My church back home is the main provider of said doughnuts and they're a REALLY BIG DEAL. Seriously, people come from New Jersey and Maryland just to get them from St. Cecilia's.

But no one knows about 'em where I am now (about four hours away from home).

LOL - the first thing I thought of was faux-nuts, like fake donuts. :P I was sort of right.

You and your crazy WORDS. (Like I can talk.)

Nice icons too. All of your hand drawn ones are very pretty. I also like the high intensity Frances/Tank kiss. I was so pleased with that frame. Frances has just the perfect pained expression there.

My mum was working on making them all week at church. Apparently they made over 100,000 fausnaughts. Seriously - they are a BIG DEAL.

We also do pork and sauerkraut for New Year's! It's supposed to be lucky.

Any weird traditions on your end?

Thank you! I love their faces in the Tank/Frances one - it really is an awesome shot. :3

Huzzah! I had a feeling you'd know if anyone did.

I was like HORRIFIED to find that Fausnaughts are not a world-wide phenomena. Seriously, they are like A REALLY BIG DEAL back home.

Yeah. Accept that outside of our area, people don't understand the joy of PA Dutch food. And then laugh in their faces for their ignorance.

(I've been dying for a slice of shoofly pie, myself. Thankfully, there's an "amish market" up here where I should be able to find some.)

Also, pork and sauerkraut for New Year's!

Seriously, PA Dutch food is awesome. Also, there's this magical place in Lebanon that makes pretzels in a little brick oven and they're only open on magical days and you have to go really early to get them because they sell out super fast.

And Chicken Pot Pie in the PA Dutch way. Yum!

I've never actually had shoofly pie, I've heard of it of course, but have never tried it.

PORK AND SAUERKRAUT ON NEW YEARS~!

Aw, man, my friends looked at me funny when I suggested it. So glad to be vindicated.

There's... another way to do chicken pot pie? Really?

It's tradition! What else IS THERE to eat on New Year's? I need the luck! :D

You have the pot pie with the noodles right? More of a stew?

From: [identity profile] tigrerosa.livejournal.com
Huh. I didn't even think of the noodley one as pot pie. It was just stew. Go figure.

Oooh, but egg noodles. I live on those things.

I do think we actually call it Chicken Stew at home. But I think I've heard it referred to as pot pie before.

I'm going to have nightmares about #2. D: (I think it's the angle that's tipping it for me. And I think that was your intention.)

I *don't* know what Fausnaughts are but my stepmom's from Reading so I can find out if you don't tell us. ::puppy eyes::

I feel the exact same way about #2. I hate the original plain Ripp one (IT HORRIFIES ME) and the added Johnny affect just makes it all the more terrible. BUT I CAN'T LOOK AWAY.

They're doughnuts! Super wonderful doughnuts that PA dutch folk make yearly because of some silly tradition of using up all the lard/butter, except they now make the fausnaughts with peanut oil according to my mom.

There's a wiki link above about them. Also, they are VRY SRS BSNS back home. Life or death, baby.
