ART

Fandom/Universe: Strangetown, Here We Come
Character(s): Ophelia, Johnny, Ripp

Answer

a/n: Wagh. I do actually draw a lot more than just stuff for this story! However, I only seem to be posting Strangetown related art here lately. Ah well.

This little comic thing came about from my own little speculations on the trio's future. I feel like they're going to have to separate at some point. I'll be really sad when/if that happens. I love these three together, but it seems unlikely that they would be able to just slide into that roll. It feels a lot like the Tank/Frances deal, maybe someday when they've separated and found themselves. Well, maybe then they can find one another again and begin anew.

Also they're not in their regular outfits, because dramatic scenes call for FANTASTICALLY PRETTY AND FLOWY DRESSES. And YES, I do realize that Ophelia's dress gets magically longer. The drama of the scene must have made it grow about a foot.

I do like the idea that Ophelia leaves first though. Because right now it's all Johnny/Ophelia running against Ripp/Ophelia and wouldn't it just be the greatest thing if Ophelia chose herself?

Oh, I love it! ^_^

I really love the last frame, with the way you drew the ground and the flowing dress. The fact that they're dressed like that makes me think they're at some event, like a wedding or a funeral.

I've never thought about Ophelia leaving both of the boys beyond by her own choice. It's an interesting angle, but I'm not sure how much I could see it happening. I think part of the weakness of Ophelia's character is that she's afraid of being completely alone. Like the way she lost her parents, she doesn't want to lose anyone else that's close to her. That doesn't mean this couldn't happen, but I think she'd be more likely to try to keep one, or both, of them in her life.

Also, I love how you've made Johnny taller and thinner than Ripp. That's exactly how I imagine them too, even though they are the same size by nature of the game. I just see Ripp as an average height, with a stocky Grunt build, but Johnny is sort of gangly (I describe him as such in one of the next chapters, even) but muscular. Pretty much exactly as you drew him. Also, I see Ophelia as pretty average, but maybe a little on the heavier side.

I like that hair on her too. I wish I could find another cc mesh that I liked for her. I might consider changing it at some point, but nothing really works for me as well as her current hair.

Thanks, I almost made a lot of grass before remembering that Strangetown was a desert - doi. Also, I love it when characters get dressed up or just change out of their everyday outfits and when they do, there's got to be some really dramatic moment, no?

No, I agree. Ophelia probably could never leave the boys. They're the only family she's got left. Though maybe if she thought her presence was hurting them... I don't know. But I've always had a soft spot for the crux of the love triangle to just... remove themselves. I actually think the one who would leave first would be Johnny. Ripp would think about it a lot and maybe feel really guilty if he thought he was hurting Johnny and Ophelia's relationship, but the thought of being without them would paralyze him. Johnny loves and cares about his friends, but he has what it takes to be without them. Though, he clearly prefers life with them.

If the trio does break apart, I'd hope it'd be a clean break. Not Ripp and Phi falling together or Ripp backing out of the picture on his own. I feel like Ophelia would actually be the one desperately trying to get the boys to stay, but maybe its the one time that the don't listen to her. Ophelia alone is a sad thing though. I don't know where she would go. I guess she could live with Nervous, but I doubt she'd like that. Still, I think Ophelia's got a lot of hidden strength and if she was forced to be alone, she'd be able to do so. She's a fighter.

Haha, Well, with drawing I have a lot more freedom to change things up.

But yeah, Johnny seems tall, thin and muscular (but not overly so? Like, he's tough, but it's subtle). And Ripp's average and a little thicker. I was thinking after I posted this that it seemed like Ophelia was maybe too thin. Haha. I guess we both get the same vibe from them.

No, I completely understand the hair problems. I like the hair you have for Phi. It suits her character well. I just wanted to draw her hair all free and kind of pretty like. Too bad that a lot of CC is lacking.

I agree with what you said about Johnny being the one most likely to leave, and would be able to manage on his own (how happy he'd be is another story). Ripp and Ophelia are both more dependant, on each other, and on Johnny. Ripp, especially, seems to rely on them as a sort of parental replacement in many ways.

Those are interesting ideas about what you think will happen, or hope will happen. I guess I shouldn't say too much about it at this point, but Ophelia is going to want to go back to help Nervous out. I've always imagined her doing that. She's going to want to keep her new family close.

This is how I've described Johnny in an upcoming chapter (you get a sneak preview - though it might change before I post it): His lithe, compact body was designed for that very purpose: to win. Johnny had put a lot of effort into it, but he was working with the right materials. His size was deceiving. Tall and thin, like a gangly teenager, but no part of Johnny's body was wasted.

I see him, not so much as appearing all that muscular, but what's there is mostly muscle. Like he has almost no body fat.

I imagine that Ripp is just average, and maybe just a little bit out of shape. Like he could be really well built if he put some effort into it, since the Grunts are naturally sort of stocky and muscular, but he puts no effort into it at all (of course). He just lucks into a decent shape through genetics and metabolism.

You know those three basic body types? Well, I sort of see them each being a different one of those. Ophelia (endomorph), Ripp (mesomorph), and Johnny (ectomorph).

I've obviously put way too much thought into this. :P

Yeah, I can't see Johnny be truly happy with Jayne. Like, I feel he could believe it for awhile (especially if he's pissed at both Ripp and Phi when he leaves), but I feel like he'd definitely grow unsatisfied and unhappy with her in time.

Ophelia's dependence is more subtle it seems. We know she needs them and Ripp knows it too probably, but I don't think Johnny really gets it entirely. Oh, and I'm not sure Ripp thinks that Ophelia needs HIM, but knows she at least needs someone.

Oh, I didn't mean that she'd mind being with Nervous. I just find it hard to imagine her willingly going back to live in Olive's house. I think she could, but would definitely have a hard time being back there.

Aw, I love how you described him. And yeah, it definitely suits him. It's too bad that the description and his actual body won't be the same though.

I really like that you think that much about your characters. It shows that you know them really well. One of my favorite parts of creating characters is changing up body types and sizes. I like to think that it adds to each character a little more.
