Journal - "WANNA GO HOME."

So sick of doing the stressful school thing. I WISH IT WAS NEXT MONDAY.
In other news I kind of had a seizure and watched most of Season 1 and then all of Seasons 2-4 of The Big Bang Theory. Mostly done out of pure curiosity as to WHY it draws 10+ million viewers each week. While I could not find the reason, as the show ranges from slightly likable to incredibly irritating, I'm not adverse to keeping up with it. But no way am I skipping Community for it! Community is my best gal after all.
As for BBT - I slightly ship Penny/Sheldon, but not really? I just really like it when they have episodes together and I definitely think the series so far has peaked at "The Adhesive Duck Deficiency" which is basically an episode of Sheldon and Penny being adorable together and the other dudes basically just having a lame background plot to help emphasize the awesome of the A-plot.
However, I've read some S/P fic and even the best of it still rings kind of false to me. I like the idea of approaching a possible hook up between them in an instinct over reason/feelings sort of matter because I really enjoy seeing composed dudes lose their shit and just go for sexy times. The only thing is that Sheldon is so weirded out by touching and just... so completely in control of whatever possible urges he might have (AND IT'S IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT HE MIGHT HONESTLY BE ASEXUAL AS THAT IS WHAT ALL SIGNS POINT TO) that it's hard to see. However, he makes exceptions for Penny (and is almost always the one that starts physical touching) and she respects his boundaries (she goes to comfort him and is about to touch/hug him, but holds back because that would just upset him MORE). So there's a lot of understanding and give and take already present there. And, from what I understand, even though people may identify as asexual it's not unusual for them to still fall in romantic love and form sexual relationships despite their personal disinterest in sex. And... not that anyone should ever compromise who they are or how they define themselves, but I don't find that surprising. I'm very much of the belief that almost everyone wants to be loved and will do crazy things for love (it doesn't necessarily have to be romantic love either) and ultimately we're all just looking to make families for ourselves - I'm thinking of a fairly loose definition of family that doesn't have to do with blood relation, though it could.
(which is actually the root of almost all comedies/sitcoms/dramas/tv/books/etc. A group of people bond together and form their own unique family and then we just kind of follow them from there.)
Despite my slight S/P leanings I actually kind of like Leonard/Penny, but I'm getting sick of how on-again/off-again they are. Can't there just be a show that commits to a ship and stops dicking around with the "drama" of it? Also, IMO a lot of the "DON'T RESTART THIS RELATIONSHIP" signs are there. I do think that when moments like... someone says they love you and you can't say it back or you think someone's going to reach for a ring to propose and suddenly you feel sick to your stomach because YOU DON'T WANT THIS happen it's sort of a sign that things aren't right.
Aaaaand I think that not exploring Sheldon/Penny at all would be a very poor choice on the part of the writers. I think the actors have a good chemistry and I also think that Sheldon cares about Penny A LOT and vice versa. Even though Jeff/Annie is far from my favorite on Community, I do think it'd have been stupid for them not to address the possibility at all.
I kind of love that they've added Amy and Bernadette to the cast for, hopefully, a long time. The show has been very "too many dicks on the dance floor" for a LOOOOONG time.
Bernadette is adorable and I do like Amy, but I'm definitely hoping that if she stays around she becomes more than just girl-Sheldon. I actually kind of think she might have lesbian-tendencies. She's completely adverse to touching Sheldon, but she's cool with engaging in "experimentation" with Penny? I can't imagine Sheldon doing that to either Penny or Leonard or... anyone.
Also, the show does seem to get better over time. I know Season 3 was a hellhole for S/P fans, but I actually thought things improved in S3. There was much less of me wanting to punch my fists through walls.
ANYWAY. Going to read S/P fic! REC ME SHIT. However, before you rec me anything by
cereal I've already thoroughly trawled through her journal for fic. Her fic is fantastic (though I wish she'd way off the sections on "WHY PENNY AND LEONARD AREN'T MEANT TO BE" because it's really unnecessary for her intended audience) especially when compared to some of the others I've picked through (there's a tendency to turn Leonard into a big, hulking villain who treats both Penny and Sheldon like scum and LOL NO - he loves them. maybe he's not always 100% nice to them, but he genuinely cares about both.).

Date: 2010-11-17 04:42 pm (UTC)shipteasing leads to ratings, sadly so the on-again, off-again thing will NEVER ENDDDDD. not unless the series does.

Date: 2010-11-17 05:06 pm (UTC)The Sheldon character on BBT is odd. I'd classify him as asexual and a little bit a-romantic but with hetero-romantic tendencies. Or something like that. He's incredibly removed from sex/romance altogether.
It's not so much shipteasing, but just... S1 is Leonard pining and then finally asking her out, S2 is the relationship not really getting started and then tiny jealous moments from both ending in Leonard leaving for 3 months and Penny sad, S3 is them finally hooking up/dating but then breaking up because Leonard says he loves her too soon and then dealing with the fallout of the breakup, S4 seems to be Penny still having unresolved feelings for Leonard.
IDK. I just wish they'd commit or let it die. They aren't very interesting to watch do the on-again-off-again thing because their chemistry just isn't very good. I maybe wouldn't mind the teasing if it were between different characters, but with Leonard/Penny it mostly just ends in a lot of eye rolling from me.

Date: 2010-11-17 05:39 pm (UTC)I guess some people find that 'WILL THEY GET BACK TOGETHER, WILL THEY NOT' thing fascinating but idk. it depends on the couple for me. I think after a while if the show goes out of its way to show you a couple doesn't work I don't wanna hear about it anymore, but at the same time people are naive and dumb and will jump back into bad/non-working relationships so it's not really that weird for it to happen on tv. it's just annoying seeing it from a third person perspective because it's like 'YOU TRIED THIS ALREADY STOP THAT' but PEOPLE ARE SILLY.

Date: 2010-11-17 06:18 pm (UTC)You aren't crazy! I definitely understand where you're coming from in your relationships with dudes. On the up side... at least you think ladies are pretty sweet too? But that's still suckish to be into dudes without the ability (not quite the right word, but all I can think of) to act on it in sexytimes. <333
Yeah, I agree that the on-off relationship thing in TV varies for the couple and also how the show handles it (they use The Office as an example in that cracked.com article, but Jim/Pam seemed like more of an uphill climb that they drew out just enough for it to work - at least for me).
And Leonard/Penny in BBT is that couple where it's obviously not working out and at this point it's not entertaining so much as frustrating to watch them dick around the same relationship over and over (without exploring anything else, which is what really gets to me, because I think it's kind of a bad plan for shows to get so set in their "vision" for characters/couples that they don't step back and try to play with any other possibilities).
It's actually one of the reasons I loooooove Community - they really aren't afraid to play with couplings and relationships and the characters were specifically put at ages so that any pairing was a viable option.

Date: 2010-11-18 01:23 am (UTC)H-haha no I am crazy. I feel safer with girls because of things men have done to me but I don't BLAME men for what happened, I just can't... have sexy times with men. Even though I think I would probably prefer it, there's too many flashbacks that happen whenever I try.
I've never watched the office-- I mean, I saw BITS of it but I don't like whatshisname (ummmmmh that guy from Evan Allmighty???) so I try to avoid it. He's just too cheesy for me and kind of ruined the show. I liked Dwight. Dwight was fun times. There was someone name Dwight, right, and I'm not remembering it wrong?
I did watch Scrubs though and I was SO FUCKING SICK of JD/Elliot omg. TOGETHER OR NOT, PICK ONE (they did, eventually, but it was in the new format where JD is a teacher for some reason? so I didn't care and stopped watching, my favorite actor got a new show (The Middle <3333) so I just watch that instead. is Scrubs even still on?)
LMAO THAT SCENE the girls are like 'lesbian funtimes? lesbian funtimes<3'

Date: 2010-11-17 08:44 pm (UTC)Then I realized how terribly sexist it is, and I just can't unsee it.
Also, I dislike the turn for the "LOL Sex jokes" it took.
I kinda shipped Shenny too, but then the fans freaked me out. So did the fanfics. And the pregnancy fanarts.
This has been Julieta's take on BBT.

Date: 2010-11-17 09:31 pm (UTC)I didn't really notice a shift in humor, but I also watched it in kind of one, long mind-numbing stream and most of the episodes have melded together in my head.
I want to like Sheldon/Penny, but I'm never going to do anything but skim the main comm for fic/art because a shipping comm with over 3000 members sounds like a terrible place.
Some of the fic is all right, but I think a lot of the better stuff was written in S2 when it was still possible for Sheldon to have deeper issues then just him being weird and there was still wiggle room in his character and how he reacts to sexual situations, but at this point in time I find it a lot harder to see Sheldon/Penny as a possibility and I think it's a difficult kind of fic to write. You've really got to toe the line with his characterization.
Lol pregnancy fanarts. Though, I am kind of interested in the idea of a S/P fic with him legit going to her to be the surrogate for his child and sort of realizing as they go through the process of it, that he doesn't just want to use her for her womb. Or something. IDK, I had a fic idea last night before bed last night that I'll probably never write, but it had something to do with Sheldon and Penny as a surrogate for him and Amy's child.
ANYWAY. I think BBT is more potential then substance. Could have been great, but is mostly mediocre.

Date: 2010-11-17 09:55 pm (UTC)I mean, if people like it, that's ok... I just can't enjoy it anymore.

it's the unhappiest place on earth.
Lol pregnancy fanarts.
They all featured them being cuddly and lovely. Which I find extremly OOC. And that annoys me.
I got to watch the unaired/rejected BBT original pilot. It featured a Sheldon who was into girls. He seemed like a weird pervert. Asexual Sheldon is a lot more likeable.
