Notes: Continuing from where we left off....
Wally and Jack drive them far away from the boss man’s hide out. They drop them off in a town, its very little and doesn’t have many stores.
j- here you go you guys
w- we brought you far away from the boss man and his hideout
j- yeah he’ll have a hard time finding you here
w- i guess you guys are probably going back to your homes
h- actually we’re not
a- we’re staying until we find my parents
g- we could have found them
a- but we lost the map
j- you mean those two people that came through seven years ago we’re your parents wee football-headed one
a- yeah, and by the way it’s Arnold
g- and I’m Gerald
j- and she’s the girl
h- that’s me
w- sorry about the map
j- good luck finding your parents though
a- i guess we better get out
They all hop out of the basket, then they turn to thank Wally and Jack for saving their lives.
h- well i would like to thank you guys
a- we would have never made with out you
g- thanks
w- aw, you’re welcome
j- yeah it was our pleasure
Arnold and Gerald turn and begin to walk away. Helga stays behind
h- (yells over her shoulder) I'll be there in a second you guys
a- okay
h- (turns back to Jack and Wally) why did you guys save us?
j- because of you girl.
h- me! well what did i do?except beat you and then tie you up
w- we thought you’re story was so sweet
j- the sweetest we ever heard
w- and we thought that a story that sweet deserves a happy ending
h- where will you go? i mean now that you are more than likely out of the boss man’s gang
j- to see the world
w- yup just the two of us
h- well good luck you guys
w- and good luck to you...uh
h- it’s Helga
j- oh good luck then Miss Helga
h- thank you
and with that Wally and Jack rode off into the sunset on their motorcycle with the basket on the front. Helga watched them disappear, a big smile on her face, Arnold watched her and years from now, when he looks back on all of his life he remembers that he’s never seen her look as beautiful as right then. she then turned around and ran to catch up with Arnold and Gerald.
h- now where should we go(looking around)
a- maybe we can find some place to buy some more food
h- how about that gas station over there(points to it)
g&a- ok
they go in
a- I'll get the food
g- I'll get the drinks
h- and I'll get all the unhealthy stuff that will eventually kill us
they all head down different aisles and then meet up to pay, they were stepping up to pay, when they heard Arnold sigh
a- *sigh*
g- what’s wrong Arnold
h- yeah what’s there to be sad about? we just escaped a bunch of lunatics who wanted us dead
a- we lost the map remember, now will never find my parents
h- oh yeah that
they all look down at their feet trying to figure out what they could possibly do without a map.
while they are waiting Helga reaches into her pack to find her money and she pulls out the map. They all stare at it in awe, suddenly Gerald slaps his forehead.
g- oh i remember now! I put the map in there when i bent down to tie my shoe
h&a- GERALD!!!
they all look at each other, then they laugh, and then they all do a little dance of joy. they pay for the food, they go outside to look at the map
a- hey look we’re right here
h- we just need to cut through the trees here(points to the map) and then we will be back on track
g- good
they start out at once. they walked a little ways when Gerald stopped
g- hey you guys i am exhausted, can we just go to bed
h- i agree
a- but...
h- don’t worry Arnold your parents aren’t going anywhere we’ll find them tomorrow or whenever we get there, but i think we all need a good nights sleep
a- but we’ll start out first thing in the morning right?
h- yeah first thing
they stop
g- good night you guys
h- good night Gerald, good night Arnold
a- good night
then they all crawl inside their sleeping bags to sleep.
next day
h- wake up! Gerald come on! we’re going now
g- huh oh yeah ok
Gerald is still really groggy but he knows they have to keep going no matter what. they head out following the path on the map.
while they are walking he doesn't pay attention and wanders away from Arnold and Helga. He gets to a stream he plunges his face into it to wake him. He looks up and sees that no one is there.
g- hello?! is anyone there? Arnold! Helga! where are you guys?
He starts to freak out
g- ok this isn’t good i have no idea where I'm going and i have no idea where i left Arnold and Helga. (talking to himself) oh man! i am all alone in a big and dangerous jungle and the boss man is probably still looking for me. ok Gerald don’t lose it just retrace your steps. yes that’s what I'll do I'll just retrace my steps
an hour or so later...
g- well that’s it i am hopelessly lost. I am going to stay here in this jungle until i starve or get eaten.(takes a seat on a log and stares at the ground for a few seconds)
g- hey what’s that? sounds like people talking. Arnold! Helga! No it sounds like more than just two voices...hm...what if it’s the boss man?!Ack! i got to hide
he dives into a big bush as the boss man and his henchmen come into the clearing.
g-(whispers to himself) oh man it is the boss man i am doomed. i wonder what they are saying?
he listens to them,
2- boss man you are a genius
bm- of course i am, what did you expect?
3- why didn’t you tell us that you actually had two copies of the map this whole time
bm- because you idiots would go blabbing it to the whole world
4- ouch that hurt right here boss man (points to his heart)
bm- (under his breath) buffoons
2- if we ever see those kids again, they will pay for what they’ve done
4- Jack and Wally too
3- i can’t believe that they did that to us
2- traitors
bm- don’t worry we’ll see those kids again soon
3- but what if they wasn’t lying and they did lose the map
bm- we eliminate all the clues
4- which means that if that couple is still alive, we should eliminate them
Q- exactly
2- and if we do run into them kids
bm- we eliminate all the clues
234- *heh heh heh*
3- wait a minute! i don’t get it
bm- *sighs*
back in the brush
g- wait a minute, this means i have a chance of finding Arnold and Helga...all I have to do is steal the map from 5 grown men(two were back guarding the base) who are extremely strong and violent.....
He begins to despair
g- like i said i am doomed, unless..... well maybe there is a way, i just have to think like myself. I mean, Helga uses brute strength, Arnold tries to talk things out logically and I, Gerald, manipulate people into business deals. perfect all i have to do is trick them, i can do that!
Gerald’s thoughts
A business deal..... but what do i have that they would want.... a watch, my shoes, how about my pocket knives walkie talkies that Brigitte gave to me, well i could give them the two i have. But how to disguise myself so that they don't realize that its me??oh of course my regular clothes. and then I'll just puff down my hair, now where is the fake beard and hat that Helga gave me?... ah ha! there it is. a baseball cap and beard should do well.
he puts them on and walks out to where the boss man is.
2- hey! who are you and what are you doing here?? huh huh(grabs Gerald by the shirt and yanks him upwards)
bm- put him down
2-(puts Gerald down and steps back) sorry boss man
bm- who are you
g- my name is Ger...Gerry Walker
3- i ain't never heared of no Gerry Walker
g- well, that's me and i have a business proposition for you Mr...uh...boss man
Q- aren’t you a little small and young for business deals boy?
bm- Q,Q, let’s be nice to are little friend here. now Mister Walker, what is your proposition?
g- this is it(brings out two pocket knives)
4 - (snorts with laughter) pocket knives?! why in the world would we want pocket knives kid?
g- 'cause these my friends are no ordinary pocket knives, they are actually(lowers his voice) walkie talkies
3- oh yeah? prove it
g- ok fine! you there
2- me?
g- yeah you! would you please hold this, take it over there, and turn the switch on the top to the on position and then say something into it. ( #2 did what Gerald said, Gerald switched his own to the on position, #2’s voice came through loud and clear, it said: “la dee da dee dum life is fun in the sun sun sun)
234- wow!
Q- how many you got kid
G- well they’re very popular so all I have left is these two right here, now in return...
bm- what do you want?
g- well you see i am kind of lost and i was wondering if you had a map that i could borrow?
2- no way, we need this!
bm- no because we have another one so fine, but listen up boy! this route here will take you deeper into the jungle you want to go back this way. got it?!
g-(nods)
bm- (puts his hand on Gerald’s shoulder and then pushes him forward) good. now go! and if we ever see you again we’ll shoot you right on the spot
g- thank you(turns and runs back into the bushes)
he waits until they start moving again and then goes around farther and comes out ahead of them. he follows the map and runs and runs. he turns the corner and runs right into Arnold. Helga is right behind him
a- Gerald! you’re alive!
h- what happened where did you go?
a- we thought we’d never find you!
h- we were sure you would be killed by the boss man
g- well i did run into them
h- how did you get away?
g- i thought like myself
a- like yourself?
g- I made them a business proposition, they didn’t even know it was me 'cause i was in disguise
h- yeah you changed your clothes i see
g- yup
a- what did you give them?
g- i gave them the walkie talkie pens. the batteries were pretty worn down anyway and they always malfunction.
a- good job Gerald(handshake)
h- and what did they give you?
g- this(holds up the map)
h- they had another copy
g- actually they had two more
a- wait they know where were going? they have been following us this whole time?
g- uh huh
h- we’re doomed!
g- we should probably get going, they were following us when i left, they are probably closing the gap right now
h- let’s go!
they pick up their things and head out.
~back in the place where we left the boss man~
2- boss man! What did you do?
4- yeah we don’t have another copy of the map!
Q- i have to agree with them
bm- didn’t any of you numskulls realize who that was?
3- i thought it was Gerry Walker
bm- you fools! that was one of the kids
4- well then why didn’t you eliminate him?
bm- because i like a challenge
2- great, but now we don’t know where we are or where we are supposed to go
bm- What kind of fool do you take me for?
3- i dunno, a big one i guess
bm- well I'm not, in fact i am much more brilliant then all of you put together, look at this(holds up some kind of gadget)
2- what is it boss
Q yes i am wondering what it is myself
bm- it’s a tracking device you morons, i planted it on the kids shirt
4- how you do that?
bm- when i pushed him forward, i had it on my hand and then it stuck to his shirt so that we’ll be able to follow him and his friends.
234Q and bm-muahahaha
~two days later~
h- i am so hungry
g- we have to eat sparingly, we’re almost out
h- well could we at least take a break to sleep we’ve only slept 4 hours in the past two days.
a- i didn’t think it would take this long so i didn’t bring that much food
h- real smart football head, the makings of a true genius
g- Helga cut it with the sarcasm, we’re having a bad enough time without your big mouth
h- (holds up a fist) you’ll live to regret those words Geraldo
a- hey look at this
h&g- what?
a- we are close to the edge of the jungle, we could just take a detour and head into this town to pick up supplies
h- finally the football- i mean Arnold’s got a good idea
g- well what are we waiting for? let’s go!
they took the detour and came to a mini mart
h- we shouldn’t all go in at once 'cause if the cops are looking for us they will be looking for three kids all together not one kid all by himself.
g- (looks at her) i noticed you said himself
a- I'll go
h- you sure
a- uh huh
Arnold goes into the store when hear hears a squeal and is knocked over in a rush of green.
Lila- Arnold oh Arnold i thought you were dead, everybody did, you, Gerald and Helga. where have you been? well duh here of course oh i am ever so glad that you are ok.
a- um... Lila
l- sh!! not now i have something important to tell you, listen Arnold when i thought you were dead i was so very sad and then i realized that this whole time i liked you liked you too! (hugs him tighter) isn’t this ever so wonderful when we go back you and me can be boyfriend and girlfriend.
Arnold looks back out the window and sees Helga talking to Gerald while standing there, smiling.
a- listen Lila.(he pushes her gently away from him)i am sorry but i can’t.
l- what do you mean you can’t?
a- i can’t go out with you
l- (forced smile on her face) well why ever not, i mean you like me like me and i like you like you. why shouldn’t we
a- because I didn’t realize it until just now that i don't like you like you. i haven’t really since the time I saved the neighborhood
l- well what changed your mind?
a- Helga
l- Helga?
a- (shrugs) well yeah. (begins to pace) she told me that she loved me and since then I've turned the thought over and under in my mind, at first i thought no way she couldn’t and i certainly don’t, then i just forgot for a while, but now when i search deep inside myself i realize how much she’s given up for me. she’s saved my life twice, she has gone against her own father when we saved mighty Pete, and for some reason I believe that she was the one who helped me get Mr.Hyunhs daughter for me, and when i got beaten up by the boss man and his chums she came to my rescue and when she took care of my wounds she was so gentle and she did it so lovingly, with her eyes full of concern and love. and when i think about everything she’s done for me i realize that i have never done anything for her except hold an umbrella over her head so that she doesn’t get wet. I guess that’s all it took to get her to love me all i had to do was be nice to her and remember that she’s human and everyone needs to be cared about
l- that’s so sweet Arnold but you never said if you loved her back
a- (closes his eyes and looks deep inside himself, then whispers) yes, yes I do I, Arnold Stone, am in love with Helga Pataki
l- don’t worry Arnold i won’t tell anyone
a- thanks Lila, i just really need to tell her myself
l- ok, well let’s go and call your families
a- what?! no we can’t!
l- well why not? they all think that your dead, they are extremely worried
a- i know but i came out here to find my parents and that is what i am going to do and you can’t tell, Lila please do this for me
l- ok, i think that you are making an ever so bad choice but i wont tell
a- thank you again, well i got to pick up a few things and then we will be heading out again( he turns to pick up his pack)
l-(behind his back) good luck Arnold
a-(turns to say something to her and there is no one there, the door to the store opens by itself and then swings shut, he hears chimes in the distance) I'm never going to see her again am i?
he smiles and then he turns back and finishes gathering what he needs. he goes up to the cash register and pays for the food. He stuffs it into his pack. and heads out the door. Helga and Gerald are there waiting for him, Helga is smiling at him, he smiles back.
h- ready to go?
a- I'm ready when you are
g- well then can we go
a- right away
They head back into the jungle.
The next night
they reach a clearing and in the middle is a big tree and in the tree is a little house. Arnold, Helga and Gerald all look at each other and then creep as quiet as they can to it. they climb the ladder as quiet as a mice. they look in the window. inside are two adults sleeping next to each other on a little bed made out of materials from the jungle.
a- its them!
h- wow we did it, we actually did it!(throws her arms around Arnold and Gerald)
g- yeah we did
a- all by ourselves
g- no one else
h- just us
a,h,&g- wow
h- so our adventure is over(saddening a little)
g- yeah now we can go back to our regular old lives
a- it seems kind of boring compared to this, but now I'll have my parents with me.
h- well at least we wont be followed by people who want us eliminated.
g&a- yeah(a couple moments of silence)
a- thanks for coming you guys
g- you know that I'll always be there for you Arnold
h- so will i
a- i guess we should knock
h- how about we do that tomorrow, let’s just have one last camp out together
g- good idea
a- yeah let’s do that
they climb back down, roll out their sleeping bags and lay next to each other closer than they usually would because they all know that they will never have this adventure again.
a- good night
h&g- good night
Helga hears birds chirping in the distance and wakes up she sees that Arnold and Gerald are still sleeping. not wanting to wake Arnold but knowing that she will probably never be able to do this ever again. She leans over and kisses his forehead very gently, and then says
h- yes Arnold, what i said up on the roof that night, it was true, i do love you and i always will(as she says this she begins to smile)
He wakes up and sees her smiling at him he smiles back, then he reaches up and hugs her around the neck. at first she is stunned but then she hugs him back. they let go, then Arnold shakes Gerald awake. they smile at him and he smiles back, then they grab him around the neck and pull him into a big hug and they just stay there like that for a long time, when they finally let go, they gather up their things and head to the tree house. they stand there for a minute. then Arnold reaches his arm out and knocks three times at the door, it creaks open a little bit and an eye peers out.
mom- Arnold?!
the door flies open and Arnold’s mother runs out and throws her arms around Arnold's neck and puts all her weight upon him while crying hysterically. His father comes out
d- hello Arnold
he kneels down beside them both, with tears in his eyes, they all stand there hugging and crying.Helga and Gerald feel a little awkward. they just stand there and watch
15 minutes later...
all of them are sitting on the furniture made out of jungle supplies
(m=mom, d=dad)
m- how did you find us?!
a- well, we found the boss man first
m- you didn’t!!! how on earth did you escape? we didn’t escape and we are much older and experienced than you
a- well me and Gerald(points to Gerald) were kidnapped by them and they beat us up pretty bad, we would have never made it out of there if it wasn’t for Helga(points to Helga)
m- (walks over to Helga and grabs her hands) thank you for saving our son
h- oh, you don’t have to thank me, i would never let anything harm Arnold or Gerald
m- (smiles)
d- so how did you know where to find us
a- the boss man had a map showing where he dropped you off at, we snuck in and stole it
d- you guys were amazing tell us the story from the beginning
a-well it all started when....
screen fades to black
a- and then we knocked on the door and here we are
m- oh you were all so brave.
d- well now that you have the map, shall we go and then we’ll take the next plane to America.
d,a,h,m&g-(shouts of joy and much rejoicing)
Gunshots are blown through the tree house, Helga screams and jumps into Arnold's arms holding onto him for dear life. the shots hit a branch and the tree house starts to tilt, furniture falls out. Arnold and Helga begin to fall,but Arnold grabs onto a branch before the tree house goes crashing to the ground. Helga slips and falls down to Arnold's feet she grasps them as tight as she can.
the dust rises from the ground and Arnold wanders if his parents and Gerald made it safely. He is afraid to look down but he does and there’s nothing there, he looks in the tree. There they are, all of them dangling from branches. Arnold smiles.
h- (screams) Arnold!
a- huh?(looks into the distance and sees the boss man with a gun pointed at Helga, he quick reaches down and pulls Helga up higher so that her arms are around his neck)
a- Helga, listen to me, i am going to let go of the branch
h- but...
a- it’s the only way to save ourselves
h- (looks down and sees that it is a long way down, she takes a deep breath and then nods) ok
Arnold lets go of the branch, just as the gun goes off. as they fall Helga doesn’t scream, she just buries her head into Arnold’s chest.
Arnold quick thought
she trusts me she believes that i won’t let any thing happen to her
Arnold quick reaches into his pack and pulls out his self inflating mattress he launches it under them. they hit it, a cloud of dust rises up, Arnold’s parents and Gerald squint to see if they made it or not. the dust passes and they see Arnold and Helga, their arms around each other and their eyes closed, they had made it safely onto the mattress.
a- (looks up) Helga,(he shakes her)Helga, you can let go,we made it.
h- (looks at him) we did?
a- yeah
h- you saved me
a- i guess i did
h- (smiles and hugs him tighter)
more gunshots. Helga screams
a- quick behind the tree(they run behind it)
they hear a voice from far away.
“DARN!! we’re out of bullets”
“guess we’ll have to eliminate them the old fashioned way”
“heh heh heh”
the bad guys come out of the bushes. Arnold and Helga look at each other
a- come down you guys
g- you’re sure? right?
a- yeah its time to fight
m- oh you kids be careful
d- don’t worry after all they’ve done i think they can handle themselves (they come down.)
the bad guys get really close.
2- you guys ready to be destroyed
a- not today, not ever
3- heh, yeah right
Q- just destroy them ok genius’
234 - ok Q
they all face each other and a battle begins. while everyone is fighting Helga looks around
h- come on come on, where are you boss man? I have a little present for you
she sees him running back into the jungle
h- ah ha!(she runs after him)
a-(watches her go) mom, dad! could you handle them all for a minute
d- of course
a- good, Gerald come on we got to go
g- go where?
a- to follow Helga and see where she is going
g- okay, whatever you say Arnold
Arnold and Gerald run into the jungle after Helga.
a- Helga!
g- Helga!
a- there she is!
they find her struggling against the grip of the boss man who is strangling her.
h- let.....go....
Arnold runs head first into the boss man’s stomach
bm- oof!
He lets go of Helga and stumbles backward. Helga slumps to the ground Arnold runs to her
a- Helga are you ok?
h- (coughing a little)yeah I'm fine, a little out of breath but otherwise fine.
a- good, now lets beat this guy
h- ok
they stand up, all three of them, Arnold, Gerald and Helga. the boss man begins to sweat
bm- ha you three can’t beat me! I’m to powerful
h- we’ll see about that. Won’t we boys?
a- that’s right
Helga reaches into her pack and pulls out lots of rope (three long pieces actually) she hands one to Arnold, the other to Gerald and keeps one for herself.they make them into lassos
bm- oh and what are you going to do with those, lasso me to death?
h- you’ll just have to wait and see
and then they each lasso the boss man.
g- ready?
h&a- ready!
they run circles around the boss man tying him tighter and tighter, (bm- hey stop that! cut it out right now you little kids) until they were so tight that he couldn’t move and when he tried he fell flat on his face.
h-(jumps into the air) we did it!
a- woohoo!
g- all right!
a- lets see if my parents are ok
h- yeah
bm- what about me huh?
h- hey Arnold give me one of your socks
a- why
h- just do it
a- ok
Arnold takes off his shoe and hands Helga his sock. She then turns to the boss man who is ranting and raving about revenge and court and lawyers.
bm- and then I'll sue you for all you’re worth and... hey what are you doing with that?
Helga stuffs the sock in his mouth and then turns to her friends
h- shall we go
she turns and leaves. Arnold and Gerald grab the boss man’s ropes and then turn and drag him back to where the tree house once stood
a- (watches her go)i told you it was a good idea to bring her
g- you like her don’t you
a- um...you see it’s like this...
g- i don’t want to hear any excuses, just the truth
a- yes i believe i do.....
a few seconds go bye
a- well aren’t you going to say something like I never would’ve thought that I would see the day when Arnold falls in love with Helga Pataki
g- nope
a- and why not?
g- because I was on this adventure too and I realized that Helga isn’t all bad, in fact she is pretty good. She just doesn’t show it
a- and when did you come to this conclusion?
g- just now, as i thought about how many times she’s saved your butt and mine
a- you know she was the one who was giving us those mysterious phone calls when the neighborhood was almost torn down
g- i figured
a- you did, but how did you know?
g- i have my ways
a- you are one amazing kid Gerald
g- well I try
a- so you’re okay with me liking Helga
g- i guess I am
a- now all I have to do is find a way to tell her
g- do you think she really wants you to like her?
a- well you know how I said about her being the mysterious caller. Well when I found out that it was her, she told me that she loved me and then she kissed me.
g- wait a minute, Helga kissed you?
a- um...yeah
g- okay now i believe in miracles. How comes you never told me this before?
a- because i don’t think she wanted anyone to know, so i kind of promised her and myself, without really saying anything that i wouldn’t tell anyone
g- you’re a bold kid Arnold, a bold kid, and a very good friend
a-yeah and now this kid is going home
g- i can’t wait
They make it to the tree house, his parents are there and they have the rest of the bad guys tied up.
a- good job
m- i knew that those Judo classes would come in handy some day
h- (leans over so that only Arnold can hear) I’m beginning to really like her
d- now lets drop these happy people off at the police station and take the next plane back to America.
a- that sounds like a great plan(as everyone nods)
two days later
they are on their way home(or so they thought).
h-i am so glad that we’re finally going home!
g- yeah i know
a- i can’t wait to see grandma and grandpa again!
d- (whispers) um... Arnold i have been meaning to talk to you about that. You see me and your mother didn’t live with your grandparents. and when we left we had just purchased a house in Montana so when you come and live with us. you probably won’t be seeing much of your grandparents or your friends. I am sorry Arnold
a- you mean i have to move away from the borders and my friends and even Grandma, Grandpa, Gerald and Helga?
m- I'm sorry honey
a- well at least i am with you guys right?
d- yup you’ll be with us
Gerald and Helga are in the seats behind them but they heard everything. they both sink back into their seats each thinking their own thoughts.
Gerald’s thoughts:
what am i going to do?? Arnold is my best friend, so what if they are his parents, they shouldn’t take him away. they can’t! this is so unfair! oh man! there will never be another friend like Arnold on this whole entire planet.
Helga’s thoughts:
how can this be happening?! i love him! they can’t tear love apart. after all that we’ve been through together! i saved his life and he’s saved mine. I hugged him and held him in my arms and now after everything that’s happened, after how hard i tried to keep him, now when i finally think the worst is behind us, new torment and treachery have been burned into my heart. its not fair!
they have their own separate thoughts but the one thought that they both share is:
how will i ever be able to say: “good-bye”
~several hours later~
m- well here we are Arnold, your new home
d- how about a picture to capture this Kodak moment
m- say cheese
a- sure but first
Arnold pulls Helga and Gerald in front of the camera and then they all put their arms around each other and smile.(Arnold in middle, Helga to his left and Gerald to his right)
d- Perfect! I'll go to town and get this developed right away and give one too each of you before you leave(he heads off)
the house was beautiful, and huge, with wild flowers growing everywhere and even a lake to go fishing in.
a- wow! it’s great, it’s amazing, it’s...
h- perfect( her eyes staring at the ground)
a- yeah, yeah it is
g- you’re going to have a lot of fun here Arnold
h- tons
a- (looks at them) I'm going to miss you guys
h- we’ll miss you too football head
g- yeah Arnold we really we’ll
h- we’ll tell everyone back home where you went
g- we’ll tell them all about our adventure

m- i guess they did, now lets go inside
they go inside, they go up a big staircase, then they come to the first bedroom
m- this room is for Gerald(next room) for you Arnold(next room) and for Helga
h- wow it’s beautiful
m- i thought that you would like it, it’s kind of a thank you for watching over Arnold and his friend
h- it wasn’t that big of a deal
m- yes it was, you know what, you remind me of myself when I met Arnold’s father. I loved him right away and I still do love him. and I think that you and Arnold will be the same way
h-(looks away) i don’t know what you’re talking about
m- don’t worry Helga, Arnold will love you too, one day, either far in the future or very soon, it could be at any time, you’ll just have to wait and see
h- I'll keep that in mind
m- well i better go. I have a lot to do now that we’re back.
She turns and leaves, Helga watches her go
Helga Thought
how did she know? I wonder if what she said is right, if it is then that means Arnold and me will be together one day. Oh how i hope she is right!
Helga hears voices she looks out her door and sees Arnold and Gerald walking down the stairs, she follows them but stays far enough behind them so that they don’t notice her. The sun is setting, Arnold and Gerald head outside together, Helga follows but stays far back and watches

they stay there for a long time just sitting beside each other. while Helga watches from behind a tree a single tear rolling down her cheek.

Arnold is sitting by the pond when Helga comes out and sits down next to him. They don’t look at each other for a while, then they look at each other and Helga scootches a little closer to Arnold. Then Helga stands up and turns away, she turns back sits down and grasps his hand. Arnold has both of her hands in his, they stare into each others eyes and then Helga rests her head on Arnold's shoulder.

~the next morning~

Arnold wakes up and goes out to his balcony. He looks out and sees all of his new home. His parents come out and place their hands on his shoulders, while Helga watches him, tears streaming down her cheeks. The next thing Arnold knows is that he is watching Helga and Gerald get in a car(they are changed into their regular clothes again) ,driven by Eduardo, and drive away. Helga peers out at him through the back of the car suddenly the wind catches her ribbon and unloops it as it blows away she doesn’t look away from Arnold’s eyes, above her Arnold sees an apparition of the boarding house with all of his friends standing in front of it. He closes his eyes and looks again it’s gone, Helga’s ribbon comes flying up and hits him in the face, As tears stream down his cheeks
~later that day....~
Arnold walks into the room holding Helga’s ribbon
m- oh Arnold why don’t you do something? It’s a beautiful day. Why don’t you go fishing?
a- ( stares at the ribbon and mumbles) i dunno
They both look at Arnold, his dad seems puzzled but his mom knows exactly what’s going on. They look at each other and then his dad says:
d- how about we all go?
m- great idea
a- (looks up) well...i guess we could
d- what are we waiting for? let’s go!

Arnold and his parents race each other down to the lake. Arnold gets there first, followed by his mom and then in last place, his dad. They all jump in the boat and start fishing. Arnold’s dad gets a big bite it pulls him so hard that he falls out of the boat, Arnold grabs his dad while his mom reels in the biggest...boot they have ever seen. Arnold falls over with laughter and lets go of his dad’s hand, which causes his dad to fall back in the water. they get back to dry land and play tag. the screen fades to black
~on the plane with Helga and Gerald~

a- no it’s not you, it’s just that well, I miss everyone and I have to go back
his parents look at each other and then his mom nods.
m- ok Arnold you may go back, I think that there’s something you’re not telling us, like something about a certain girl, but it’s ok, we understand.(Arnold hugs her and then he turns and hugs his dad)

m- but don’t forget that no matter what happens and no matter where you go we will always love you

..and that’s it, that’s what happened i know it sounds made up, but that’s the truth. now about what happened when we all got home...
Arnold is sitting at his desk in his room at the boarding house. He is writing in his dad’s old journal. His dad slipped it into his pack before he left with a note saying that it was his and he should tell of his adventure and everything that happened and so he did...
Well the weirdest thing happened. It seems that while we were gone Lila just disappeared. No one knew when it happened exactly but she up and left without a trace. Nothing remains in her house, nothing. Its like she just vanished, people think that she was a ghost or a vampire, but i don’t believe that. no, not one bit of it. but if you ask me i would say that she is an angel. i know that everyone believes that she was stopping me from liking Helga, but in a way she kind of was the one who got us together. i would have never admitted liking Helga to myself if she hadn’t come along. oh well...
As for me and Helga, well i know that everyone probably thinks that we became boyfriend and girlfriend, but we didn’t, right now we’re just friends even though we both know that we like each other more than that. Sorry if i let anyone down, but that’s how some things should be.
It’s neat, hanging out with Helga i mean, because when we came back we all kind of always got together(Gerald, Helga and me) and then she started bringing Phoebe so now we all hang out together, just the 4 of us. We have a lot of fun. Helga makes jokes and they are hilarious!(she tries not to be as mean but sometimes things slip out of her we mainly just ignore it) She is really creative. She showed me some of her poetry but she still refuses to let me see the shrine of me. Actually i think it’s kind of freaky that she made a shrine of me like i was a god or something and all because of an umbrella and a compliment.
Even though all this stuff with Helga has happened, it hasn’t changed my friendship with Gerald. We are still as tight as ever. My parents come and visit me a lot, and every time they do, they bring me something from where they have been. Because after I left they decided to travel the world again. Sometimes I worry that they might be in a crash that will be the end of them or the boss man will find them. i try not to think about it and it hasn’t happened so far so maybe i never will. Anyway i guess that’s it!

Arnold and Gerald turn and begin to walk away. Helga stays behind

w- we thought you’re story was so sweet

and with that Wally and Jack rode off into the sunset on their motorcycle with the basket on the front. Helga watched them disappear, a big smile on her face, Arnold watched her and years from now, when he looks back on all of his life he remembers that he’s never seen her look as beautiful as right then. she then turned around and ran to catch up with Arnold and Gerald.
h- now where should we go(looking around)
a- maybe we can find some place to buy some more food
h- how about that gas station over there(points to it)
g&a- ok
they go in
a- I'll get the food
g- I'll get the drinks
h- and I'll get all the unhealthy stuff that will eventually kill us
they all head down different aisles and then meet up to pay, they were stepping up to pay, when they heard Arnold sigh
a- *sigh*
g- what’s wrong Arnold
h- yeah what’s there to be sad about? we just escaped a bunch of lunatics who wanted us dead
a- we lost the map remember, now will never find my parents
h- oh yeah that
they all look down at their feet trying to figure out what they could possibly do without a map.
while they are waiting Helga reaches into her pack to find her money and she pulls out the map. They all stare at it in awe, suddenly Gerald slaps his forehead.
g- oh i remember now! I put the map in there when i bent down to tie my shoe
h&a- GERALD!!!
they all look at each other, then they laugh, and then they all do a little dance of joy. they pay for the food, they go outside to look at the map
a- hey look we’re right here
h- we just need to cut through the trees here(points to the map) and then we will be back on track
g- good
they start out at once. they walked a little ways when Gerald stopped
g- hey you guys i am exhausted, can we just go to bed
h- i agree
a- but...
h- don’t worry Arnold your parents aren’t going anywhere we’ll find them tomorrow or whenever we get there, but i think we all need a good nights sleep
a- but we’ll start out first thing in the morning right?
h- yeah first thing
they stop
g- good night you guys
h- good night Gerald, good night Arnold
a- good night
then they all crawl inside their sleeping bags to sleep.
next day
h- wake up! Gerald come on! we’re going now
g- huh oh yeah ok
Gerald is still really groggy but he knows they have to keep going no matter what. they head out following the path on the map.
while they are walking he doesn't pay attention and wanders away from Arnold and Helga. He gets to a stream he plunges his face into it to wake him. He looks up and sees that no one is there.
g- hello?! is anyone there? Arnold! Helga! where are you guys?
He starts to freak out
g- ok this isn’t good i have no idea where I'm going and i have no idea where i left Arnold and Helga. (talking to himself) oh man! i am all alone in a big and dangerous jungle and the boss man is probably still looking for me. ok Gerald don’t lose it just retrace your steps. yes that’s what I'll do I'll just retrace my steps
an hour or so later...
g- well that’s it i am hopelessly lost. I am going to stay here in this jungle until i starve or get eaten.(takes a seat on a log and stares at the ground for a few seconds)
g- hey what’s that? sounds like people talking. Arnold! Helga! No it sounds like more than just two voices...hm...what if it’s the boss man?!Ack! i got to hide
he dives into a big bush as the boss man and his henchmen come into the clearing.
g-(whispers to himself) oh man it is the boss man i am doomed. i wonder what they are saying?
he listens to them,
2- boss man you are a genius
bm- of course i am, what did you expect?
3- why didn’t you tell us that you actually had two copies of the map this whole time
bm- because you idiots would go blabbing it to the whole world
4- ouch that hurt right here boss man (points to his heart)
bm- (under his breath) buffoons
2- if we ever see those kids again, they will pay for what they’ve done
4- Jack and Wally too
3- i can’t believe that they did that to us

bm- don’t worry we’ll see those kids again soon
3- but what if they wasn’t lying and they did lose the map
bm- we eliminate all the clues
4- which means that if that couple is still alive, we should eliminate them

g- wait a minute, this means i have a chance of finding Arnold and Helga...all I have to do is steal the map from 5 grown men(two were back guarding the base) who are extremely strong and violent.....
He begins to despair
g- like i said i am doomed, unless..... well maybe there is a way, i just have to think like myself. I mean, Helga uses brute strength, Arnold tries to talk things out logically and I, Gerald, manipulate people into business deals. perfect all i have to do is trick them, i can do that!
Gerald’s thoughts
A business deal..... but what do i have that they would want.... a watch, my shoes, how about my pocket knives walkie talkies that Brigitte gave to me, well i could give them the two i have. But how to disguise myself so that they don't realize that its me??oh of course my regular clothes. and then I'll just puff down my hair, now where is the fake beard and hat that Helga gave me?... ah ha! there it is. a baseball cap and beard should do well.
he puts them on and walks out to where the boss man is.
2- hey! who are you and what are you doing here?? huh huh(grabs Gerald by the shirt and yanks him upwards)
bm- put him down
2-(puts Gerald down and steps back) sorry boss man
bm- who are you
g- my name is Ger...Gerry Walker
3- i ain't never heared of no Gerry Walker
g- well, that's me and i have a business proposition for you Mr...uh...boss man
Q- aren’t you a little small and young for business deals boy?
bm- Q,Q, let’s be nice to are little friend here. now Mister Walker, what is your proposition?
g- this is it(brings out two pocket knives)

g- 'cause these my friends are no ordinary pocket knives, they are actually(lowers his voice) walkie talkies

g- yeah you! would you please hold this, take it over there, and turn the switch on the top to the on position and then say something into it. ( #2 did what Gerald said, Gerald switched his own to the on position, #2’s voice came through loud and clear, it said: “la dee da dee dum life is fun in the sun sun sun)

G- well they’re very popular so all I have left is these two right here, now in return...
bm- what do you want?
g- well you see i am kind of lost and i was wondering if you had a map that i could borrow?
2- no way, we need this!
bm- no because we have another one so fine, but listen up boy! this route here will take you deeper into the jungle you want to go back this way. got it?!
g-(nods)
bm- (puts his hand on Gerald’s shoulder and then pushes him forward) good. now go! and if we ever see you again we’ll shoot you right on the spot
g- thank you(turns and runs back into the bushes)
he waits until they start moving again and then goes around farther and comes out ahead of them. he follows the map and runs and runs. he turns the corner and runs right into Arnold. Helga is right behind him
a- Gerald! you’re alive!
h- what happened where did you go?
a- we thought we’d never find you!
h- we were sure you would be killed by the boss man
g- well i did run into them
h- how did you get away?
g- i thought like myself
a- like yourself?
g- I made them a business proposition, they didn’t even know it was me 'cause i was in disguise
h- yeah you changed your clothes i see
g- yup
a- what did you give them?
g- i gave them the walkie talkie pens. the batteries were pretty worn down anyway and they always malfunction.
a- good job Gerald(handshake)
h- and what did they give you?
g- this(holds up the map)
h- they had another copy
g- actually they had two more
a- wait they know where were going? they have been following us this whole time?
g- uh huh
h- we’re doomed!
g- we should probably get going, they were following us when i left, they are probably closing the gap right now

they pick up their things and head out.

4- yeah we don’t have another copy of the map!

4- well then why didn’t you eliminate him?

2- great, but now we don’t know where we are or where we are supposed to go

h- i am so hungry
g- we have to eat sparingly, we’re almost out
h- well could we at least take a break to sleep we’ve only slept 4 hours in the past two days.
a- i didn’t think it would take this long so i didn’t bring that much food
h- real smart football head, the makings of a true genius
g- Helga cut it with the sarcasm, we’re having a bad enough time without your big mouth
h- (holds up a fist) you’ll live to regret those words Geraldo
a- hey look at this
h&g- what?
a- we are close to the edge of the jungle, we could just take a detour and head into this town to pick up supplies
h- finally the football- i mean Arnold’s got a good idea
g- well what are we waiting for? let’s go!
they took the detour and came to a mini mart
h- we shouldn’t all go in at once 'cause if the cops are looking for us they will be looking for three kids all together not one kid all by himself.
g- (looks at her) i noticed you said himself
a- I'll go
h- you sure
a- uh huh
Arnold goes into the store when hear hears a squeal and is knocked over in a rush of green.
Lila- Arnold oh Arnold i thought you were dead, everybody did, you, Gerald and Helga. where have you been? well duh here of course oh i am ever so glad that you are ok.
a- um... Lila
l- sh!! not now i have something important to tell you, listen Arnold when i thought you were dead i was so very sad and then i realized that this whole time i liked you liked you too! (hugs him tighter) isn’t this ever so wonderful when we go back you and me can be boyfriend and girlfriend.
Arnold looks back out the window and sees Helga talking to Gerald while standing there, smiling.
a- listen Lila.(he pushes her gently away from him)i am sorry but i can’t.
l- what do you mean you can’t?
a- i can’t go out with you
l- (forced smile on her face) well why ever not, i mean you like me like me and i like you like you. why shouldn’t we
a- because I didn’t realize it until just now that i don't like you like you. i haven’t really since the time I saved the neighborhood
l- well what changed your mind?
a- Helga
l- Helga?
a- (shrugs) well yeah. (begins to pace) she told me that she loved me and since then I've turned the thought over and under in my mind, at first i thought no way she couldn’t and i certainly don’t, then i just forgot for a while, but now when i search deep inside myself i realize how much she’s given up for me. she’s saved my life twice, she has gone against her own father when we saved mighty Pete, and for some reason I believe that she was the one who helped me get Mr.Hyunhs daughter for me, and when i got beaten up by the boss man and his chums she came to my rescue and when she took care of my wounds she was so gentle and she did it so lovingly, with her eyes full of concern and love. and when i think about everything she’s done for me i realize that i have never done anything for her except hold an umbrella over her head so that she doesn’t get wet. I guess that’s all it took to get her to love me all i had to do was be nice to her and remember that she’s human and everyone needs to be cared about
l- that’s so sweet Arnold but you never said if you loved her back
a- (closes his eyes and looks deep inside himself, then whispers) yes, yes I do I, Arnold Stone, am in love with Helga Pataki
l- don’t worry Arnold i won’t tell anyone
a- thanks Lila, i just really need to tell her myself
l- ok, well let’s go and call your families
a- what?! no we can’t!
l- well why not? they all think that your dead, they are extremely worried
a- i know but i came out here to find my parents and that is what i am going to do and you can’t tell, Lila please do this for me
l- ok, i think that you are making an ever so bad choice but i wont tell
a- thank you again, well i got to pick up a few things and then we will be heading out again( he turns to pick up his pack)
l-(behind his back) good luck Arnold
a-(turns to say something to her and there is no one there, the door to the store opens by itself and then swings shut, he hears chimes in the distance) I'm never going to see her again am i?
he smiles and then he turns back and finishes gathering what he needs. he goes up to the cash register and pays for the food. He stuffs it into his pack. and heads out the door. Helga and Gerald are there waiting for him, Helga is smiling at him, he smiles back.
h- ready to go?
a- I'm ready when you are
g- well then can we go
a- right away
They head back into the jungle.
The next night
they reach a clearing and in the middle is a big tree and in the tree is a little house. Arnold, Helga and Gerald all look at each other and then creep as quiet as they can to it. they climb the ladder as quiet as a mice. they look in the window. inside are two adults sleeping next to each other on a little bed made out of materials from the jungle.
a- its them!
h- wow we did it, we actually did it!(throws her arms around Arnold and Gerald)
g- yeah we did
a- all by ourselves
g- no one else
h- just us
a,h,&g- wow
h- so our adventure is over(saddening a little)
g- yeah now we can go back to our regular old lives
a- it seems kind of boring compared to this, but now I'll have my parents with me.
h- well at least we wont be followed by people who want us eliminated.
g&a- yeah(a couple moments of silence)
a- thanks for coming you guys
g- you know that I'll always be there for you Arnold
h- so will i
a- i guess we should knock
h- how about we do that tomorrow, let’s just have one last camp out together
g- good idea
a- yeah let’s do that
they climb back down, roll out their sleeping bags and lay next to each other closer than they usually would because they all know that they will never have this adventure again.
a- good night
h&g- good night
Helga hears birds chirping in the distance and wakes up she sees that Arnold and Gerald are still sleeping. not wanting to wake Arnold but knowing that she will probably never be able to do this ever again. She leans over and kisses his forehead very gently, and then says
h- yes Arnold, what i said up on the roof that night, it was true, i do love you and i always will(as she says this she begins to smile)
He wakes up and sees her smiling at him he smiles back, then he reaches up and hugs her around the neck. at first she is stunned but then she hugs him back. they let go, then Arnold shakes Gerald awake. they smile at him and he smiles back, then they grab him around the neck and pull him into a big hug and they just stay there like that for a long time, when they finally let go, they gather up their things and head to the tree house. they stand there for a minute. then Arnold reaches his arm out and knocks three times at the door, it creaks open a little bit and an eye peers out.
mom- Arnold?!
the door flies open and Arnold’s mother runs out and throws her arms around Arnold's neck and puts all her weight upon him while crying hysterically. His father comes out
d- hello Arnold
he kneels down beside them both, with tears in his eyes, they all stand there hugging and crying.Helga and Gerald feel a little awkward. they just stand there and watch
15 minutes later...
all of them are sitting on the furniture made out of jungle supplies
(m=mom, d=dad)
m- how did you find us?!
a- well, we found the boss man first
m- you didn’t!!! how on earth did you escape? we didn’t escape and we are much older and experienced than you
a- well me and Gerald(points to Gerald) were kidnapped by them and they beat us up pretty bad, we would have never made it out of there if it wasn’t for Helga(points to Helga)
m- (walks over to Helga and grabs her hands) thank you for saving our son
h- oh, you don’t have to thank me, i would never let anything harm Arnold or Gerald
m- (smiles)
d- so how did you know where to find us
a- the boss man had a map showing where he dropped you off at, we snuck in and stole it
d- you guys were amazing tell us the story from the beginning
a-well it all started when....
screen fades to black
a- and then we knocked on the door and here we are
m- oh you were all so brave.
d- well now that you have the map, shall we go and then we’ll take the next plane to America.

Gunshots are blown through the tree house, Helga screams and jumps into Arnold's arms holding onto him for dear life. the shots hit a branch and the tree house starts to tilt, furniture falls out. Arnold and Helga begin to fall,but Arnold grabs onto a branch before the tree house goes crashing to the ground. Helga slips and falls down to Arnold's feet she grasps them as tight as she can.
the dust rises from the ground and Arnold wanders if his parents and Gerald made it safely. He is afraid to look down but he does and there’s nothing there, he looks in the tree. There they are, all of them dangling from branches. Arnold smiles.
h- (screams) Arnold!
a- huh?(looks into the distance and sees the boss man with a gun pointed at Helga, he quick reaches down and pulls Helga up higher so that her arms are around his neck)
a- Helga, listen to me, i am going to let go of the branch
h- but...
a- it’s the only way to save ourselves
h- (looks down and sees that it is a long way down, she takes a deep breath and then nods) ok
Arnold lets go of the branch, just as the gun goes off. as they fall Helga doesn’t scream, she just buries her head into Arnold’s chest.
Arnold quick thought
she trusts me she believes that i won’t let any thing happen to her
Arnold quick reaches into his pack and pulls out his self inflating mattress he launches it under them. they hit it, a cloud of dust rises up, Arnold’s parents and Gerald squint to see if they made it or not. the dust passes and they see Arnold and Helga, their arms around each other and their eyes closed, they had made it safely onto the mattress.
a- (looks up) Helga,(he shakes her)Helga, you can let go,we made it.
h- (looks at him) we did?
a- yeah
h- you saved me
a- i guess i did
h- (smiles and hugs him tighter)
more gunshots. Helga screams
a- quick behind the tree(they run behind it)
they hear a voice from far away.
“DARN!! we’re out of bullets”
“guess we’ll have to eliminate them the old fashioned way”
“heh heh heh”
the bad guys come out of the bushes. Arnold and Helga look at each other
a- come down you guys
g- you’re sure? right?
a- yeah its time to fight
m- oh you kids be careful
d- don’t worry after all they’ve done i think they can handle themselves (they come down.)
the bad guys get really close.
2- you guys ready to be destroyed
a- not today, not ever
3- heh, yeah right
Q- just destroy them ok genius’
234 - ok Q
they all face each other and a battle begins. while everyone is fighting Helga looks around
h- come on come on, where are you boss man? I have a little present for you
she sees him running back into the jungle
h- ah ha!(she runs after him)
a-(watches her go) mom, dad! could you handle them all for a minute
d- of course
a- good, Gerald come on we got to go
g- go where?
a- to follow Helga and see where she is going
g- okay, whatever you say Arnold
Arnold and Gerald run into the jungle after Helga.
a- Helga!
g- Helga!
a- there she is!
they find her struggling against the grip of the boss man who is strangling her.
h- let.....go....
Arnold runs head first into the boss man’s stomach
bm- oof!
He lets go of Helga and stumbles backward. Helga slumps to the ground Arnold runs to her
a- Helga are you ok?
h- (coughing a little)yeah I'm fine, a little out of breath but otherwise fine.
a- good, now lets beat this guy
h- ok
they stand up, all three of them, Arnold, Gerald and Helga. the boss man begins to sweat
bm- ha you three can’t beat me! I’m to powerful
h- we’ll see about that. Won’t we boys?
a- that’s right
Helga reaches into her pack and pulls out lots of rope (three long pieces actually) she hands one to Arnold, the other to Gerald and keeps one for herself.they make them into lassos
bm- oh and what are you going to do with those, lasso me to death?
h- you’ll just have to wait and see
and then they each lasso the boss man.
g- ready?
h&a- ready!
they run circles around the boss man tying him tighter and tighter, (bm- hey stop that! cut it out right now you little kids) until they were so tight that he couldn’t move and when he tried he fell flat on his face.
h-(jumps into the air) we did it!
a- woohoo!
g- all right!
a- lets see if my parents are ok
h- yeah
bm- what about me huh?
h- hey Arnold give me one of your socks
a- why
h- just do it
a- ok
Arnold takes off his shoe and hands Helga his sock. She then turns to the boss man who is ranting and raving about revenge and court and lawyers.
bm- and then I'll sue you for all you’re worth and... hey what are you doing with that?
Helga stuffs the sock in his mouth and then turns to her friends
h- shall we go
she turns and leaves. Arnold and Gerald grab the boss man’s ropes and then turn and drag him back to where the tree house once stood
a- (watches her go)i told you it was a good idea to bring her
g- you like her don’t you
a- um...you see it’s like this...
g- i don’t want to hear any excuses, just the truth
a- yes i believe i do.....
a few seconds go bye
a- well aren’t you going to say something like I never would’ve thought that I would see the day when Arnold falls in love with Helga Pataki
g- nope
a- and why not?
g- because I was on this adventure too and I realized that Helga isn’t all bad, in fact she is pretty good. She just doesn’t show it
a- and when did you come to this conclusion?
g- just now, as i thought about how many times she’s saved your butt and mine
a- you know she was the one who was giving us those mysterious phone calls when the neighborhood was almost torn down
g- i figured
a- you did, but how did you know?
g- i have my ways
a- you are one amazing kid Gerald
g- well I try
a- so you’re okay with me liking Helga
g- i guess I am
a- now all I have to do is find a way to tell her
g- do you think she really wants you to like her?
a- well you know how I said about her being the mysterious caller. Well when I found out that it was her, she told me that she loved me and then she kissed me.
g- wait a minute, Helga kissed you?
a- um...yeah
g- okay now i believe in miracles. How comes you never told me this before?
a- because i don’t think she wanted anyone to know, so i kind of promised her and myself, without really saying anything that i wouldn’t tell anyone
g- you’re a bold kid Arnold, a bold kid, and a very good friend
a-yeah and now this kid is going home
g- i can’t wait
They make it to the tree house, his parents are there and they have the rest of the bad guys tied up.
a- good job
m- i knew that those Judo classes would come in handy some day
h- (leans over so that only Arnold can hear) I’m beginning to really like her
d- now lets drop these happy people off at the police station and take the next plane back to America.
a- that sounds like a great plan(as everyone nods)
two days later
they are on their way home(or so they thought).
h-i am so glad that we’re finally going home!
g- yeah i know
a- i can’t wait to see grandma and grandpa again!
d- (whispers) um... Arnold i have been meaning to talk to you about that. You see me and your mother didn’t live with your grandparents. and when we left we had just purchased a house in Montana so when you come and live with us. you probably won’t be seeing much of your grandparents or your friends. I am sorry Arnold
a- you mean i have to move away from the borders and my friends and even Grandma, Grandpa, Gerald and Helga?
m- I'm sorry honey
a- well at least i am with you guys right?
d- yup you’ll be with us
Gerald and Helga are in the seats behind them but they heard everything. they both sink back into their seats each thinking their own thoughts.
Gerald’s thoughts:
what am i going to do?? Arnold is my best friend, so what if they are his parents, they shouldn’t take him away. they can’t! this is so unfair! oh man! there will never be another friend like Arnold on this whole entire planet.
Helga’s thoughts:
how can this be happening?! i love him! they can’t tear love apart. after all that we’ve been through together! i saved his life and he’s saved mine. I hugged him and held him in my arms and now after everything that’s happened, after how hard i tried to keep him, now when i finally think the worst is behind us, new torment and treachery have been burned into my heart. its not fair!
they have their own separate thoughts but the one thought that they both share is:
how will i ever be able to say: “good-bye”
~several hours later~
m- well here we are Arnold, your new home
d- how about a picture to capture this Kodak moment
m- say cheese
a- sure but first
Arnold pulls Helga and Gerald in front of the camera and then they all put their arms around each other and smile.(Arnold in middle, Helga to his left and Gerald to his right)
d- Perfect! I'll go to town and get this developed right away and give one too each of you before you leave(he heads off)
the house was beautiful, and huge, with wild flowers growing everywhere and even a lake to go fishing in.
a- wow! it’s great, it’s amazing, it’s...
h- perfect( her eyes staring at the ground)
a- yeah, yeah it is
g- you’re going to have a lot of fun here Arnold
h- tons
a- (looks at them) I'm going to miss you guys
h- we’ll miss you too football head
g- yeah Arnold we really we’ll
h- we’ll tell everyone back home where you went
g- we’ll tell them all about our adventure
a- i wish i could be there to see their faces
h- but you’ll be so happy here
a- yeah i guess i will
m- come on kids lets go inside, Arnold your friends can have the guest rooms, and tomorrow they can take the first plane back to their homes, I’ve already contacted their parents and told them that they’re coming home.
a- ok mom
h- how did my parents handle it?
m- well lets just say that your father had a bit of a temper and I can see why, you left without telling them anything
h-(mumbles under her breath) i left them a note
a- i don’t get it, if you were gone for 7 years why wasn’t the house sold?
m- i believe that your grandparents have been paying the bills all these years
a- i guess they believed that you would come back
m- i guess they did, now lets go inside
they go inside, they go up a big staircase, then they come to the first bedroom
m- this room is for Gerald(next room) for you Arnold(next room) and for Helga
h- wow it’s beautiful
m- i thought that you would like it, it’s kind of a thank you for watching over Arnold and his friend
h- it wasn’t that big of a deal
m- yes it was, you know what, you remind me of myself when I met Arnold’s father. I loved him right away and I still do love him. and I think that you and Arnold will be the same way
h-(looks away) i don’t know what you’re talking about
m- don’t worry Helga, Arnold will love you too, one day, either far in the future or very soon, it could be at any time, you’ll just have to wait and see
h- I'll keep that in mind
m- well i better go. I have a lot to do now that we’re back.
She turns and leaves, Helga watches her go
Helga Thought
how did she know? I wonder if what she said is right, if it is then that means Arnold and me will be together one day. Oh how i hope she is right!
Helga hears voices she looks out her door and sees Arnold and Gerald walking down the stairs, she follows them but stays far enough behind them so that they don’t notice her. The sun is setting, Arnold and Gerald head outside together, Helga follows but stays far back and watches

they stay there for a long time just sitting beside each other. while Helga watches from behind a tree a single tear rolling down her cheek.
~that night~
song: don’t let go(a song sung by Arnold and Helga)
Arnold is sitting by the pond when Helga comes out and sits down next to him. They don’t look at each other for a while, then they look at each other and Helga scootches a little closer to Arnold. Then Helga stands up and turns away, she turns back sits down and grasps his hand. Arnold has both of her hands in his, they stare into each others eyes and then Helga rests her head on Arnold's shoulder.
the screen fades to black
~the next morning~
song:this is where I belong
Arnold wakes up and goes out to his balcony. He looks out and sees all of his new home. His parents come out and place their hands on his shoulders, while Helga watches him, tears streaming down her cheeks. The next thing Arnold knows is that he is watching Helga and Gerald get in a car(they are changed into their regular clothes again) ,driven by Eduardo, and drive away. Helga peers out at him through the back of the car suddenly the wind catches her ribbon and unloops it as it blows away she doesn’t look away from Arnold’s eyes, above her Arnold sees an apparition of the boarding house with all of his friends standing in front of it. He closes his eyes and looks again it’s gone, Helga’s ribbon comes flying up and hits him in the face, As tears stream down his cheeks
~later that day....~
Arnold walks into the room holding Helga’s ribbon
m- oh Arnold why don’t you do something? It’s a beautiful day. Why don’t you go fishing?
a- ( stares at the ribbon and mumbles) i dunno
They both look at Arnold, his dad seems puzzled but his mom knows exactly what’s going on. They look at each other and then his dad says:
d- how about we all go?
m- great idea
a- (looks up) well...i guess we could
d- what are we waiting for? let’s go!
song- here i am
Arnold and his parents race each other down to the lake. Arnold gets there first, followed by his mom and then in last place, his dad. They all jump in the boat and start fishing. Arnold’s dad gets a big bite it pulls him so hard that he falls out of the boat, Arnold grabs his dad while his mom reels in the biggest...boot they have ever seen. Arnold falls over with laughter and lets go of his dad’s hand, which causes his dad to fall back in the water. they get back to dry land and play tag. the screen fades to black
~on the plane with Helga and Gerald~
Sound The Bugle
~back with Arnold it is night~
song- nothing I've ever known
~the next morning Arnold comes into his parent’s room, holding Helga’s ribbon.~
a- mom? dad?
m- what is it Sweetie?
a- i want to go back
m- back?
a- yeah back with Grandma, Grandpa and all of my friends
d- why?
m- was it something we did?
a- no it’s not you, it’s just that well, I miss everyone and I have to go back
his parents look at each other and then his mom nods.
m- ok Arnold you may go back, I think that there’s something you’re not telling us, like something about a certain girl, but it’s ok, we understand.(Arnold hugs her and then he turns and hugs his dad)
a- thank you
m- but don’t forget that no matter what happens and no matter where you go we will always love you
d- always and forever
a- thanks i love you guys too
d- thank you for rescuing us
m- we would have never made it back without you and your friends, you know your friends must really care about you to follow you all the way to Africa
a- yeah, I guess they do
d- you’re lucky to have them
a- i know, they’re the best
d- good luck Arnold
m- We’ll call Eduardo right away and tell him to give you a lift back
a- you guys are the best(hugs them again)
screen fades to black

intro: Arnold hugs his parents, then turns around and hops into the plane(being flown by Eduardo) and waves good-bye
i hear the wind call my name: his hair is being blown and closes his eyes
the sound that leads me home again: sees an apparition of the boarding house
it sparks up the fire - a flame that still burns:he sees his friends and family waving to him
to you I will always return: pulls out his picture of Helga , Gerald and himself
i know the road is long but where you are is home:looks up and sees Helga
wherever you stay - I'll find the way: closes his eyes

I've seen every sunset : lifts her face up(they both have tears streaming down their faces) and tells her this
and with all that I've learned: tells her this

..and that’s it, that’s what happened i know it sounds made up, but that’s the truth. now about what happened when we all got home...
Arnold is sitting at his desk in his room at the boarding house. He is writing in his dad’s old journal. His dad slipped it into his pack before he left with a note saying that it was his and he should tell of his adventure and everything that happened and so he did...
Well the weirdest thing happened. It seems that while we were gone Lila just disappeared. No one knew when it happened exactly but she up and left without a trace. Nothing remains in her house, nothing. Its like she just vanished, people think that she was a ghost or a vampire, but i don’t believe that. no, not one bit of it. but if you ask me i would say that she is an angel. i know that everyone believes that she was stopping me from liking Helga, but in a way she kind of was the one who got us together. i would have never admitted liking Helga to myself if she hadn’t come along. oh well...
As for me and Helga, well i know that everyone probably thinks that we became boyfriend and girlfriend, but we didn’t, right now we’re just friends even though we both know that we like each other more than that. Sorry if i let anyone down, but that’s how some things should be.
It’s neat, hanging out with Helga i mean, because when we came back we all kind of always got together(Gerald, Helga and me) and then she started bringing Phoebe so now we all hang out together, just the 4 of us. We have a lot of fun. Helga makes jokes and they are hilarious!(she tries not to be as mean but sometimes things slip out of her we mainly just ignore it) She is really creative. She showed me some of her poetry but she still refuses to let me see the shrine of me. Actually i think it’s kind of freaky that she made a shrine of me like i was a god or something and all because of an umbrella and a compliment.
Even though all this stuff with Helga has happened, it hasn’t changed my friendship with Gerald. We are still as tight as ever. My parents come and visit me a lot, and every time they do, they bring me something from where they have been. Because after I left they decided to travel the world again. Sometimes I worry that they might be in a crash that will be the end of them or the boss man will find them. i try not to think about it and it hasn’t happened so far so maybe i never will. Anyway i guess that’s it!

Helga got her Big Damn Hero moment in the last section, so Gerald gets a chance to show his chops in this one. I like that he has to pause and think about what he's good at, besides looking damn good in a suit.

Awww, I kind of love the idea of Helga's ribbon flying back to Arnold.
I had a SUPER LONG step-by-step write up of how Sound the Bugle would have gone, but I am waaaaay too lazy to go searching for it now. It's depressing with a hopeful end though. Which, y'know, that's how the song goes.
I really love Nothing I've Ever Known. It's probably my favorite on the album (although the final version of I Will Always Return BREAKS MY HEART IN ALL THE BEST WAYS).

Date: 2009-07-14 08:17 am (UTC)Well, with some nonsense removed (or at least polished) or converted into comic elements it probably would make a better cartoon than the "official plot-line".
What I like here is the small scout group — I always felt that the movie as it's planned is too overcrowded. Arnold and Helga need more "intimate" circumstances.
I have made two lists of fanfics for Hey Arnold Wiki: one for TJM-based movies, and another about fanfics sited in San Lorenzo. And I honestly have no idea of whether I should include this story into any of them. :)

Yeah, when I found out that the whole class was going on this adventure in the official TJM I really didn't like it. I see WHY having all the kids be there is good (it really represents Hey Arnold! to have a large, interesting cast), but it would definitely lose a lot of the intimacy that a small group has.
Haha, definitely don't stick it in the San Lorenzo one. Apparently, I thought that TJM was going to take place in Africa? Yeah, I definitely didn't do my research back then.
I'd rather you didn't put it in the TJM-based movies either, just because it's both terrible and dear to me at the same time. I don't really need everyone and their mother reading it. :3
