Art - Fireside Tales - Ellie and Tass

Fandom/Universe: Fireside Tales
Character(s): Ellie, Tass

Ellie is mute and is some sort of hybrid creature (human and something else... I never decided on WHAT). But this resulted in her having the ability to see people's deaths before they happened. When she comes into skin contact with someone for the first time, she can see exactly how they are going to die. She never really understood it until she was seven when her mentor/teacher/brother-type person died (Duncan) right in front of her in the exact same way she saw it happen. After that she kind of went insane and ended up becoming an assassin, feeling like it gave her some sense of control over her visions. She also ends up wearing this bigass cloak and mask and gloves so that none of her skin is ever exposed. She only touches people after she's killed them.
Tass comes from a village of fire mages. The society is slowly dying out, because their magic has a kick of karma to it. Whatever power they dole out comes back to hit the user at almost full power. Also, they HAVE to use the fire magic from time to time and in moderation, because otherwise it either a) is too powerful for them to stand the recoil b) builds up inside of them until one day it consumes them entirely. So uh, their lives suck. Tass' sister and father have already been consumed in their own flames (his sister in an effort to protect him, which is pretty terrible). Despite all that, Tass is a pretty happy and optimistic guy. He also dreams of a future where he can control the fire inside of him without fear and goes searching for that very answer.
Some stuff happens, Ellie saves his life on some instinct and then panics and leaves him all alone, he desperately tries to find her and thank her and eventually they wind up traveling together. She is silent and he's silly! She's a badass and he's not a very good fighter at all!
Also, she eventually does have to touch his skin and sees his death and then eventually is able to stop it, making her realize that her visions are not set in stone and that the future is never a sure thing. I don't know if Tass ever manages to overcome his fire problems though. :\
a/n: Ah, I missed these guys. They are awesome and totally OTP and there storyline is still so very fuzzy, which I kind of like. But, plot aside, I know these two like the back of my hand.

Date: 2008-12-08 08:14 pm (UTC)Hmm, interesting information on Ellie...but to me, her becoming an assassin doesn't make much sense...unless she was paid to strictly target the bad guys. But then again, she probably was quite...nutty at that point when she chose her profession. So I don't know if I have any grounds to question it.
One of my characters has a similar prophetic power to Ellie's - except, rather than being informed of the person's death, it's the other way around. If someone would look into his (yes, it's a guy and he's middle-aged and he's...nameless...so far) eyes and paid attention long enough...they'd see how they would die. Whereas he himself would have no idea, on a conscious level, how they would die (it's not as though he was born with it). In fact, he probably doesn't become aware of his own powers - even after all those times people would run away screaming bloody Mary. What can I say, he might not be...the sharpest tool in the shed. :p I...still have to work out the kinks of his characterization, and figure out his past, present, and future. Along with my other characters for my so-called epic story.
As far as Tass goes...I like characters who are upbeat and sunny, despite having a...not so cheery background. It's sort've a double-edged sword as far as characterization goes: either the character is strong enough to overcome the most foul of obstacles, or he is weak enough to seal up and/or refuse to acknowledge those memories within him. It is...interesting to say the least. I have to wonder if Tass is the former, the latter, or a combination of both.
Some stuff happens, Ellie saves his life on some instinct and then panics and leaves him all alone, he desperately tries to find her and thank her and eventually they wind up traveling together. She is silent and he's silly! She's a badass and he's not a very good fighter at all!
I wonder what their children would be like in terms of appearance and personality. But, uh...I doubt Ellie would be able to do the deed. I mean, how can you sex up someone you love and see visions of their death?
Also, she eventually does have to touch his skin
in order to make outand sees his death and then eventually is able to stop it, making her realize that her visions are not set in stone and that the future is never a sure thing. I don't know if Tass ever manages to overcome his fire problems though. :\That's a great lesson to learn. :) But...death is also inevitable (unless Tass and Ellie were to become immortal), so it would've been heartbreaking to see Ellie lose Tass or the other way around...had it became a story, that is.

Date: 2008-12-08 10:31 pm (UTC)And Tass! The Fire thing is very awesome, but it sucks that they have to live with such fear inside of them. :(

Date: 2008-12-08 11:17 pm (UTC)I've got four stories about them here: http://users.livejournal.com/beyondheroism__/tag/%21fireside+tales
Though, they're all a couple years old now, but I think they're still pretty okay. Except In Distress is sorta ridiculous.

Date: 2008-12-08 11:20 pm (UTC)And Tass is unfortunate too what with that whole 'could die at any moment' thing. He deals with it all fairly well though and really just wants to do some good for the world.

Date: 2008-12-08 11:32 pm (UTC)I actually tend to default to boringish poses for things like this, but I dunno I saw this silly shot of her and couldn't resist. Especially since it seems sort of out of character (though not entirely - she's serious, but she's also got a fun streak in her that only Tass can really bring out).
Yeah, the logic behind Ellie becoming an assassin isn't all that sound. Like, I don't know, she was never a 'good guy' in the first place - she was an outcast from birth, her father and mother died when she was younger, she was raised in an orphanage for awhile and treated differently because of her looks, she ran away, Duncan found her and kind of became her hero, they were pickpockets and thieves, he died in front of her and she finally understood that her visions were REAL and that she was all alone and she sort of wondered for awhile and then just fell into the role of murderer, because it seemed too easy. And because when she touches someone after they're already dead she doesn't have the visions. There's nothing to see.
Ooooooo! That's so cool! I'm like SO FUCKING EXCITED to hear more about this epic story! Details????? :3
Yeah, part of him just wants to block out all those terrible things that have happened to him, but a lot of him is just... cheerful. He wants to rise above the darkness that seems to hang over him and the rest of the village. If he stayed there any longer he'd go insane.
Oh, wow, I don't even know what they'd look like! Or act like! Never got to that point in my head, but I figure there'd be a boy first for some reason.
They will probably have sex at some point though and a real relationship. After that first initial shock of seeing the other person's death, she can touch them without any other effect. It's just that first time that matters. And she does eventually touch Tass.
Nah, they aren't immortal, but I can only imagine happy endings for the two of them. If they die it probably won't be until they're old and grey, because that's how it ought to be.

Date: 2008-12-08 11:53 pm (UTC)Also also, THESE were the characters I was trying to remember a couple of months ago! I keep forgetting because you hardly ever mention them (or else I just ignore you when you do). I'm glad that the future isn't 100% set in stone because then there would be no free will and that would make me sad. :(

Date: 2008-12-09 12:08 am (UTC)Haha, this is true! I do not mention them very much, because I do not think of them very much even though I absolutely LOVE them. But I've kind of been on an Ellie/Tass kick recently (though this pic is actually sort of old - it was the only one I had already scanned in).
I agree with the whole not-fate thing. I like the idea of having a choice. Hence why the third book of the spawnverse is NEGAS AND POSIE'S EPIC FIGHT AGAINST FATE AND HOW THEY KILL HER/HIM/IT.

All I've figured out so far is that there'll be five main characters - three women; two men; one's a hero and the other his heroine - and that the setting will be somewhere in modern-day Europe. As far as the plot goes...well...I've got several in mind, but I'm none too sure of which direction I want to go in. Basically, it's still...very much in the works, and it...probably won't come to fruition for another year or so. Why? Because, unfortunately, I am a lazy bitch. I also don't want to pressure myself to crank it out, because when I pressure myself the results are...well, sloppy.
Oh! But I have sketched up the main characters...sooo I can upload 'em if you want a peek at 'em.

Ahhhhhh. I had assumed that if they didn't die the first time she'd see them die in a alternative way...but thanks for the clarification. And yay for the happy ending!
