And when Johnny wakes up the next morning all he can think is -

this is mine

Ripp is snuggled tightly against his back, a lone arm snaking across Johnny’s side, fingers reaching far enough to just barely touch Ophelia’s hip. Ophelia’s head is buried in Johnny’s chest and she smells like all the world’s flowers wrapped into one beautiful entity.

He is in the middle, which he finds strange and, for some reason, oddly comforting. They surround him from both sides and it’s nothing like he thought it’d be. Ophelia is familiar and she is his, but she is Ripp’s also. And even though Ripp’s body is foreign, his spirit - his soul, is not. The back of Johnny’s neck grows warm at what that could mean.

It’s strange, but not. It’s foreign, but so familiar. Ripp on one side, Ophelia on the other.

He knows that he’s making a bad choice. He can’t possibly believe this is going to work. He can’t really think it will always be like this. There’s no way he’s turning his back on his family, his not-quite planet, his (not-his) cause for this. This small, fading, silly hope.

He has always been the logical one.

But still he doesn’t move.

In the back of his mind he can still hear the words repeating over and over again.

this is mine this is mine this is mine

And it’s enough.

This is just lovely. I like it a lot. I can really see this being close to what actually happens. Johnny waking up and feeling content with the choice he's made, or has begun to make. It was his choice, afterall. He was the one who chose to forgive Ripp and welcome him back into whatever it is that they now have, and it was him who put Ripp into Phi's bed, then crawled in between them (in some strange combination of wanting to be the one that's closer to Phi, but also staying close to Ripp to watch him and make sure he's okay). I love that simple statement: This is mine. Johnny really is just looking for some home to lay claim to, and he feels liket he's found that in the two of them.

You've also captured the fact that Johnny would be the one to question the craziness of the whole scenario too. Ripp and Phi don't have the same conventional, stable family background that Johnny has (minus the alien factor... Johnny's still not particularly normal, overall). I can see him second-guessing himself and watching it all very closely, fearful of signs of cracks in the appearance of happiness. And there's always the alien duty that makes him feel guilty for choosing his own happiness over the greater goal, so that will continue to factor in too.

For now, though, Johnny just does what feels right to him.

I've enjoyed reading and looking at both your fanfic and pics today (while I really should be working) - especially your drawings are very beautiful and fitting :) Thanks for sharing!

I love that he made that choice. It really shows how deep the trio's connection runs, when even sensible Johnny is beginning to see the blending points. And the fact that Johnny brought him back to Phi's bed instead of putting Ripp back in his 'place' is just YES!!!

Tank and Phi used to be my favorites, but I'm starting to realize that I adore Johnny. He can be a dick sometimes, but mostly he just wants to be happy and surrounded by love. He's Ripp and Phi's protector, the original force that drove them all together.

Yeah, I'd imagine Johnny would be the one to question their situation most. Phi is probably the one with the easiest time accepting it - she's got her two golden boys. Ripp won't question it, but the problem is his wonderful sleaziness. Is this going to turn into an actual relationship between the three of them? O-or just Ripp joining them sometimes? A-and was pulling Ripp in, an acceptance of the three of them as more than 'just friends' or really just a gesture of friendship with Johnny wanting things to go back to they were before? Ahhhh! NEED MORE.

Oh, the alien duty... PSHHHHH. Hand Jayne some viles of Johnny's sperm and let them all get back to their lives. (Don't like Jayne, don't care what she does)

I'm so looking forward to seeing the trio's relationship in the upcoming future and how it might change.

Your story is just.... wonderful! You're so good at keeping things interesting and building up suspense and throwing in surprises and I can't wait for more!!!
