So I've been watching a lot of shit lately. I'm not a big movie/tv person, but it seems like I've been watching more of both as of late. I also get to see people going to movies and last night was the midnight showing of Eclipse and that was insane. D:

LET ME TALK ABOUT SOME STUFF NOW:

Eclipse

I'm probably not gonna go see this even to hate-watch it or roll my eyes at it. The Twilight series is bad for many different reasons, but more than anything it just bores me and if I hadn't read the books just to say I've read them I wouldn't have bothered continuing after the first (I might have stopped partway through the first actually). It's just not a series that I find worthwhile.

I worked the midnight showing at the theatre last night though and we basically filled the ENTIRE THEATRE. That's 10 screens and over 1200 people. It was a total madhouse. I was greeting and people were honestly not that bad when they got up to where I was, but once they made it past me into the theatres they could be awful. We kept asking people to move down in rows so we could fit more in, but so many people were stubborn about it for stupid reasons.

People actually got in line for it around 8:00 and basically just waited around until at least 11:00.

True Blood

I never really talk about True Blood, because I guess I'm a little embarrassed that I like it. I have a hard time telling if it's actually good or just good at holding my attention. I really enjoy the aesthetic. I could take or leave the crazy sex and I like Eric best when he's at his worst and basically I am hoping that he and Sookie avoid having a "thing" because it will annoy me.

My favorites are Jason and Tara and I really hate Jason's plot so far this season, because I hate that he killed Eggs (even if I knew that Eggs was going to die somehow - I knew it since the moment he appeared on screen). I also kind of ship Jason/Tara even though it's fucked to hell at this point.

And I'm a bit confused about the timeline. Arlene seemed very surprised by the fact that her baby was conceived three months earlier and I'm wondering if three months earlier happened at the height of the Mary-Anne insanity or that the baby is actually Rene's, which is a much greater cause for panic I think. IN ANY CASE, I love Terry and Arlene and I want them to be SO HAPPY forever and ever. Even though I know it's unlikely because apparently dramas mean that no one can ever be happy. :\

Which is probably my big issue with True Blood. No one can ever catch a break - there's very little reprieve from all the bad shit. And I have a hard time watching my favorite characters get dragged through the mud. :(

Mad Men

My On Demand has been playing past seasons of Mad Men lately and me and my best friends have been trying to catch up on it. I'd seen a few episodes before June, but it was sort of hard to connect to the plot without understanding all that was going on in previous episodes. I mentioned that maybe we should try watching it with my besties and they were like: "Okay." and now we're all hooked. I still have 2 episodes to finish in Season 2 and then it's just waiting until July 11th when they put up Season 3. And July 25th is the start of the 4th season!

Apparently episodes premiere on Sundays at 10:00 so Sunday nights are just going to be epic. True Blood at 9 and Mad Men at 10. Awesome.

My favorites are ALL THE LADIES EVER. Don Draper can also be really awesome (he can also be completely terrible). Pete Campbell is the worst.

Betty kicking Don out of the house was super awesome and I adore her so so much and I hope she gets some happiness soon. She's always so sad and lonely. :(

Doctor Who

I've seen eps 4 - 10 and have heard excellent things about the last few episodes. I could probably go digging online for them, but I'm content to just wait for my On Demand to get the rest of the eps.

I have a stupid crush on Matt Smith and Amy is pretty cool and I just want them to MAKE OUT. I love Rory, but I honestly don't know if I love him with Amy. I feel like both Rory and Amy have better chemistry with the Doctor and together they make awesome best friends. IDK.

The Vincent Van Gogh episode was heartbreaking BTW.

TOY STORY 3

I have waaaaaaay too many feelings about this movie. I've been to see it 3 times at this point and might go again. I loved it so so so much.

I'm never going to get over Bo being gone. I want to read a thousand fics about Bonnie ending up with Bo in some odd twist of fate and then Woody and Bo reunite and everything is perfect. Woody's face when Rex brings up Bo as one of the friends they'd lost along the way just... it kills me. He's not over it. He's never going to be over it. He loved her and she's gone and he couldn't keep her because that's the rules.

Also! That little moment in the beginning where the toys try calling Andy's cell phone? And Andy picks up and says: "Hello?" and Woody just hugs the phone a little tighter? ;_______;

And all the adventure and the horrifying interrogation scene and BONNIE SO CUTE. SPANISH BUZZZZZZZZ.

ALSO - I have a very very hard time believing that it took Buzz and Jessie like 8+ years to really start a relationship of some sort. 8+ years of UST? THE WORST.

Him flirting with her was amazing though and they are super cute together and I love them very much (although I honestly think I care more about Woody and Bo because I am weeeeeird).

THE INCINERATOR SCENE FUCK NO NO NO. The first time I went I was with my best friend and the whole incinerator scene was overlaid with us just shouting: "NO FUCK THIS NO THIS IS NOT THE END WHAT NO NO NO."

And ACCEPTING DEATH and HOLDING HANDS and BUZZ/JESSIE LEAN INTO EACH OTHER AND EVERYONE CLINGS TOGETHER AND WOODY IS IN THE MIDDLE AND HOLDING SO TIGHT AND THEN THE CLAAAAAAAW.

I AM NEVER GOING TO BE THE SAME!

Andy giving up his toys to Bonnie was perfect and I can hold it together until he gets to Woody and then I'm a mess. WOODY WILL NEVER GIVE UP ON YOU. And Andy's little gasp when Bonnie has Woody wave to him and I just... I cannot.... ;________;

Basically, if you haven't seen Toy Story 3 - WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU?

ETA: I have very little interest in going to see The Last Airbender for a variety of reasons, but I was wondering if there was anyone on my flist who is boycotting the movie, but would still like to know about some of the things it does? That is - is the tone as ~dark~ and ~edgy~ as the trailers make it seem or is it true that Katara's role has been diminished? Because I can go see the movie without supporting Paramount or M. Night (I get in for free because I work there) and part of me wants to hate-watch it because I can.

(I also sort of want to pay to see Toy Story 3 at least once because I DO want to throw support behind Pixar, but it's kind of hard to convince myself to pay when I don't have to... XD)

I shouldn't have worn eyeliner to Toy Story 3. Let's leave it at that. :P

It has broken me so completely. I can't even... for me it just gets more heartbreaking with each rewatch. The first time I was just... in shock and awe and couldn't cry. But these last two times I've been almost inconsolable.

TOO MANY FEELINGS.

I'm going to see Last Airbender tomorrow, and I can give you a pretty good idea of how the movie is. I figure I can't really boycott it, because I haven't even really given it a chance if that's the case Twilight is a BIG exception BLECK and I don't know about the racebending or whatever. I can't really agree or disagree with the casting until I see how they act. If they're good actors, then they earned the role, right? Jake Gyllenhall played Dastan really well in Prince of Persia, so I have no complaints about him. I am a little more iffy on the Avatar folks, though I have to say, by the trailers, Noah Ringer appears to be a pretty awesome Aang.

I know enough about the movie to justify boycotting it. The racefail, the ~edginess~, Katara's role getting diminished and making her a much weaker character - that's too much for me to ignore.

For me, the race thing is a really big issue and has been from day one. I think the way they handled casting was shitty and racist and that's that. I don't care if these actors are the most badass, insanely awesome actors of all time (they aren't) - whitewashing the cast was a terrible, awful, offensive and harmful thing to do.

I didn't go to see Prince of Persia for the same reasons. :\

Toy Story 3 was so much win, I ordered the art book off of amazon after seeing it.

As for Last Airbender, I'm not so much boycotting as not interested. The trailer make it look kind of dull to me. And I loved the series.

I'd love to get the artbook, but I'm super tight on money these days. :(

Yeah, racefail aside the movie just looks sort of... not good. And the people playing Sokka and Katara didn't really endear me to them at the KCA's. They were very flat in their delivery (especially Nicola) and totally outshined by Jerry Trainor being hilarious and lovable.

Well, that's not really fair cuz Jerry trainer is made of hilarity and love. :P

I have not watched TS3, yet but I do intend to kidnap the little brother and have myself a good cry :3

I did, however, go and watch suffer hrough Eclipse today. We went at like 10:45 in the morning, so it wasn't too crowded, and everyone was more or less quiet (except for like...three girls, but they're excused because I didn't even hear them most of the time). I only watched it because I sat through the first two and my mother threatened me that if I didn't sit through the rest of the series there would be broken bones involved ;_; It really wasn't as horrible as I was expecting, I mean...acting wise. Plot wise, yes. still.

I would totally go to The Last Airbender if I didn't have to pay so I can lawl and snerk at it!

Do it! It's so worth it.

Hahahahaha, oh man. I had to do theatre checks yesterday so I got to see bits and pieces of it. The part where Edward attacks that redhead chick and bites her head clear off (which didn't really look like it made sense?) someone at the back of the theatre went: "DAMN!" and I started giggling like crazy.

I've only seen the first one and am incredibly disinterested in seeing anymore. :\

I might go just to lol at it, but what if it isn't even like... interesting to snark at? What if it's just... boring? :\

I've never even watched one episode of the newest Doctor Who (my dad, brothers and little sister are obsessed with Doctor Who but it never caught on with me), but THERE'S A VINCENT VAN GOGH EPISODE? I ... may just watch that one because I'm curious. :D

As for The Last Airbender, I haven't even seen the movie itself, but Roger Ebert did tear it apart. He didn't even give it one star. Soooo...yeah, it's bad. While I don't always depend on a critic to determine what I'm going to watch, I was so grateful to see that it was as bad as some fans expected. Still sad, though, because of what it could've been. :\

(Although I'm a little worried about the possibility of a second film because ONTD confirmed I guess they just cast an actress to play Azula for the second movie.)

If you're interested in Doctor Who at all I definitely recommend trying to catch up on this season. It's a brand new Doctor and companion and storyline (i believe anyway) and though there are references to things that have happened to others who came before him, it's still easy enough to follow along with.

I was never ever interested in the Tenth Doctor (Tennant), but for some reason I am incredibly endeared to Matt Smith as the Eleventh.

The Van Gogh episode is heartbreaking. If you have On Demand it's the 10th episode and I recommend it. :3

ROGER EBERT <333333333333

It could have been really awesome. I think that's what hurts the most. The Last Airbender could have been amazing and deserving of a trilogy, but apparently it's just a big pile of failure all around.

I honestly don't foresee it doing that well. Right now everyone is interested in Eclipse (or Toy Story 3 still) and IDK. I see it doing... okay (not great or even good), but it picked a terrible week to open and that's going to hurt it big time.

IDK. If it tanks I don't foresee Nick risking another movie. Nick is incredibly wishy washy when it comes to movies. I just hope this doesn't hurt: A) the Avatar series B) any chance of ever getting an animated Avatar movie.

I may try and watch a few episodes! Doctor Who just never caught on with me, but this season sounds really good. (And I wasn't interested in the Tenth Doctor either. IDK, he played the villain from the Harry Potter movies and that's who he is to me.)

I don't think it's going to perform well at the box office either. You're still going to get people who'll stubbornly see the movie, but so far fans have said nothing but bad things about it.

I'm actually seriously hoping Eclipse kills any possible success it could have at the box office, even if it is Twilight. I'D PAY FOR ECLIPSE BEFORE THE LAST AIRBENDER, SORRY TO SAY.

D: That's a frightening thought. I doubt the success of the live-action film is going to affect any future productions involved with the Avatar franchise. Only because Dragon Ball Evolution wasn't that long ago, and Dragon Ball Z Kai was still picked up by FUNimation and Nick Toons still chose to air it on their channel. So, there's still a chance it could hurt the franchise, but I think as long as the fans still support the original series it shouldn't suffer too badly.

The last three episodes of Doctor Who are great. The first three weren't so great, you're lucky to have started when it got good. And there probably won't be much making out unfortunately. There should be but people seem reluctant to even have the kissing that's happened so far, let alone the threesome that should be happening.

And I haven't seen Toy Story 3 because it's not out here yet :(

Awesome. I'd like to see the first three at some point just because I think the first episode seems to be fairly important to the general plotline of the series.

Yeah... they don't really seem to be letting Matt and Karen ride their onscreen chemistry. Which is a shame. :(

I would be down with a threesome, but LOL never gonna happen. ;___;

When it comes out there go see it! It's really good! :D

The first episode is decent, but for the most part I feel the first episode of each season is usually a bit weak. They're usually written in a way that sometimes feels a bit less intense then the later ones in the season. There's probably a reason. But I really didn't like 2&3. The just never kicked into gear for me.

And this show will infuriate you for shipping. Romance sort of isn't allowed, especially for the doctor. At least it doesn't look like the doctor fancies Amy, back when Rose was the companion we had 3 seasons of UST that just generally went on too long to the point that Rose overshadowed the next companion and was pretty much a defining point of Ten and got no satisfying resolution.

It's annoying because if they had Amy coming on to Rory like she did the Doctor, no one would mind but there's a large portion of fans from the old days that are really against the Doctor showing any sort of romantic inclinations.

And July 19th is the release day over here. I might try to get my little sister excited about it and hope it turns into some sort of family outing that I don't have to pay for.

NNNNNNNNNNNNFFFFFFFFFF I'VE ONLY SEEN TOY STORY 3 TWICE!!!! I NEED TO SEE IT AGAIN
AND CRY
CRY A LOT
I LOVE CRYING TO THAT MOVIE
IT'S SO AWESOME
THEY'RE BEAUTIFUL TEARS!!!
; ^;

Also, I was one of those who said "I'll support the AVATAR franchise" but then I learned they took the Kiyoshi Warriors out (whom I think were the only ok part of the movie, other than Noah Ringer). I don't think I can watch it without giving myself an ulcer...

I'm really upset because I'm afraid that they're going to get rid of the theatre that is just showing Toy Story 3 (not in 3D) soon. I really hate 3D - it makes everything darker and less clear. :\

SEE IT AGAIN. SEE IT EVERYDAY. BEST MOVIE. SO MANY TEARS!

I can understand that. I'm a little afraid that the movie is going to tank and it's somehow going to affect the new animated series they're working on. I think Nick is smart enough to know how powerful and effective the first series was and won't punish the show for being connected to such a shitty film, but I'm still a little nervous. The Jungle Movie never being made will always make me distrust Nickelodeon - just a little bit. :(

Date: 2010-07-01 10:55 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] engelen.livejournal.com
What gives me some confidence are the new special edition DVDs (which being the deranged fan I am will be buying ASAP). I believe that if they do good, and the artbook sales do good too, Nick will be able to distinguish between the show and the live action piece of crap.
Also, I believe the thing that fucked the jungle movie was the monetary loss they had with the MADE FOR TV AND NOT INTENDED FOR CINEMA Hey Aronld! And here it's Paramount the one producing, not Nick... so it's like.. different studios = different budgets = different loss?

*tries to stay possitive*

I meant to comment earlier but I hadn't see TS3 yet. But I have now and um....FEELINGS. I cried at least three times and broke my heart and made me feel happy and everything. The fact that Andy was going to college and I'm thinking about college and all that was just...so touching for me. But Bo! I don't remember much from the first two movies but I remember Bo/Woody. Sadness.

And now I have to say: DOCTOR WHO! I just started watching this season and yes! Matt Smith is adorable. I'm not sure if I ship Doctor/Amy. I really like Rory - something about Amy/Rory just works for me. And I kind of think of the Doctor as somewhat asexual but IDK. We'll see.

I also watch True Blood and Mad Men but I am not up to date (halfway through season 2 for TB and working through season 1 of Mad Men) so I didn't really read your opinions for fear of spoilers. But Joan <3
